Drunk Catering Truck Driver Causes San Diego County Injury Crash
Roy Anguiano, a taxicab passenger suffered severe injuries after the cab was struck head-on by a catering truck, which officials say, was being operated by a drunk driver. According to this news report in the Village News, this accident in northern San Diego County occurred January 12, 2009 near the intersection of East Fallbrook Street and MacDonald Road. The driver of the catering truck, identified as 36-year-old Jorge Alcaraz, had a blood alcohol level of 0.19, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Alcaraz was traveling westbound on Fallbrook Street when he drifted into the eastbound lane, striking the taxicab on the passenger side. California Highway Patrol officials say it wasn’t clear whether Alcaraz was planning on making a turn into MacDonald, but that it was clear he wasn’t paying attention. Anguiano suffered severe injuries to his face, neck and head. He needed more than 15 stitches to his eyebrows and eyelids. The taxi driver did not suffer major injuries. Alcaraz was arrested for driving under the influence. He could face felony charges because of Anguiano’s severe injuries.
I’m extremely relieved for Roy Anguiano and his family, to learn he survived this horrible DUI crash, which could have easily caused catastrophic or even fatal injuries. I’m also relieved that the taxi driver did not suffer serious injuries. I wish Anguiano the best for a speedy physical and emotional recovery. Such an experience can be very traumatic.
