Woman Killed in Long Beach Auto Accident
Beatriz Adriana Loaiza, 37, died in a Long Beach auto accident after she was struck and killed by a car backing out of a driveway, The Press Telegram reports. Loaiza, a South Gate resident, was apparently kneeling down next to a parked vehicle checking the tires the night of March 3, 2009 in the 100 block of East Del Amo Boulevard when she was struck by a 2003 GMC Envoy that was backing up from a driveway at that location. Loaiza died at an area hospital from major head injuries.
The driver of the GMC has not been cited or arrested pending an investigation. If you have any information about this fatal auto accident, please call Long Beach Police Accident Investigations detectives David Lauro or Sirilo Garcia at 562-570-7355.
My heart goes out to the family of Beatriz Adriana Loaiza, who died tragically in this unfortunate accident. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved Loaiza. Please keep them in your prayers.
Backup collisions occur when a driver reverses his or her vehicle and strikes an object or a person behind the car. Although all vehicles come equipped with rear-view mirrors, drivers can sometimes miss a person, especially a child, when they are backing up. A lot of times, this happens because drivers are not paying attention or are not aware of their surroundings. Backup collisions most affect children under 15 years of age. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, between 2001 and 2003, about 7,475 children under the age of 15 were treated for automobile back-over incidents.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that back-up collisions occur most often in residential or commercial driveways and parking lots and usually involve sport utility vehicles or small trucks that tend to have larger blind spots. Still, the driver of the car backing up and hitting a person or another car, is usually considered to be a fault or negligent in these cases.
In this Long Beach accident, it is obvious that the driver of the GMC made no effort to check his surroundings before backing out of the driveway. So although he may not have been able to see Loaiza because she was kneeling, as the driver, it was this driver’s responsibility to make sure no one was in the way before backing up.
Beatriz Adriana Loaiza’s family would be well-advised to retain the services of an experienced California auto accident attorney, who will be able to determine the facts of the case and hold the negligent parties accountable for their actions. A skilled California personal injury lawyer would also be able to determine whether there were any dangerous conditions on the driveway that contributed to this backup accident. If that is the case the property owner responsible for maintaining that driveway could be held liable.

Dear Kimberly,
This is what I think your dear mother would say to you now.
My darling sweetheart Kimberly,
You know how much I love you and always will. For some reason this was my time to go. With all of my heart and soul, I hate to leave you and wish I could stay, but God has a plan for me and for you. So, I hope you will trust God that He knows what is best for us. Please choose to always do your best and be the best you can be. I know if you study hard that you will grow up to be a great woman and you will make me so very proud of you. Our family is so very important, so please be careful who you choose to marry and raise a family with. If you pray, then I know you will choose the best man for you, and a man who will be worthy of you.
Always remember how much I love you and how much I wanted to stay with you, but God had another plan for us. We will be together again when the time is right. Please be your best and I will wait for you.
All my love to you my darling girl,
Love Forever,
Mom
