San Francisco Car Accident Injures Two

Two people were hurt in a San Francisco car accident the morning of August 27, 2009 after a 24-Divisadero bus collided with a car, the San Francisco Examiner reports. Muni officials say preliminary reports indicate that the car rear-ended the bus. The car's driver and a passenger in the bus were transported to an area hospital with injuries. No one else was injured.

I'm relieved that this car accident did not result in serious or life threatening injuries. I sincerely hope that the injuries suffered by the car's driver and the bus passenger were not severe. Improperly Secured Load Causes Fatal California Car Accident

The California car accident lawyers at Bisnar | Chase have represented families of victims who have been fatally injured as a result of unsecured loads on our freeways. Recently, there was a report in the Kern Valley Sun of a tragic car accident, which claimed the life of 58-year-old John Paul Hamon of Weldon, California. The fatal car accident occurred July 30, 2009 when 63-year-old Michael Carl Rapport, 63, was traveling on the Highway 178 in Kern County with three 2-by-4 boards tied to the top of his 1990 Ford Bronco. Hamon was traveling west on the highway and Rapport was going east when one of the boards fell off the Bronco, struck and penetrated the windshield of Hamon's 1995 Ford Explorer directly in front of the driver seat.

Hamon sustained significant head injuries and died instantly, California Highway Patrol officials said. Hamon's SUV rolled off the road for about 800 feet. Rapport is facing a criminal investigation and could possibly be charged in this fatal crash. Hamon's passenger, 67-year-old Leta Johnson, was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Police Chase Leads to Fatal San Francisco Area Car Accident

A woman was killed and her 20-month-old child was critically injured after an August 26, 2009 San Francisco car accident, which was the result of a police chase. The fatal car crash occurred in Oakland, California, on West and 18th streets when a man driving an Acura Integra, who was fleeing in a police chase, struck the woman's car. According to an ABC news report, Oakland police officials were trying to stop the suspect because he had been speeding. Investigators say the suspect ran through a stop sign and slammed into the woman's black Hyundai Accent.

The impact was so strong that it reportedly pushed the Hyundai for about a block. It's not yet clear whether police were trying to stop the suspect for something other than speeding. An internal investigation is underway to determine whether the officers followed the Oakland Police Department's pursuit policy. The suspect has been arrested.

Riverside Car Accident Kills Woman

Shari Martinez, 27, was killed in an August 25, 2009 Riverside car accident after she was struck on the 60 Freeway by a pickup truck, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Department. California Highway Patrol officials say Martinez was hit by the truck after getting out of her car, which had broken down on the freeway in Moreno Valley, California. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. The 56-year-old man, who was driving the truck, stopped at the scene. He was not arrested or cited, but CHP officials are continuing the investigation.

San Bernardino Car Accident Kills Elderly Woman

Maria Sanchez, 84, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after another driver attempted a U-turn and struck the car in which she was a passenger. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, Michael V. Santos, 23, was driving east on Highway 138 east of the 15 Freeway in Hesperia, California, the night of August 23, 2009, when he made a U-turn in front of another car driven by 43-year-old Maria Santana. The two vehicles collided and Santana's car rolled over ejecting Sanchez. Santana, Santos and Santos' passenger--22-year-old Sandra Alcantar--were all taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. Sanchez was also taken to an area hospital where she died, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Los Angeles Car Accident Kills 10-year-old Boy

Ricardo Mercado, 10, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by an SUV while walking in a crosswalk with his family, the Los Angeles Times reports. Ricardo was crossing Tweedy Boulevard at San Vincente Avenue in South Gate the morning of August 22, 2009 with his mother, Ana Mercado, 35, and two sisters, Anita, 12 and Leticia, 6, when a woman driving a Volkswagen SUV made a left turn from San Vincente onto Tweedy and struck the family. Eyewitnesses told police that the female driver of the SUV was talking on a cell phone right before the fatal accident occurred.

South Gate police say there was no indication that the motorist made an attempt to stop before the collision. It was also not clear how fast she was going at the time. Ana Mercado, as well as her daughters, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

San Bernardino Car Accident Injures Man in Wheelchair

A 43-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a San Bernardino car accident after he was struck by a teen driver at a street intersection in Yucaipa, California, the morning of August 20, 2009. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the man was crossing 11th Street at Yucaipa Boulevard in a motorized wheelchair when he was struck by a full-sized Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old boy. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials say the pickup was traveling at about 35 to 40 mph, which is normal speed for that road. The driver simply did not see the man in the wheelchair, officials said. Based on the skid marks at the scene, officials say, the teenager tried to stop his car, but could not do so in time to avoid the pedestrian-car collision. The victim was taken to an area hospital.

San Bernardino Car Accident Kills Motorcyclist

Douglas Donnell Brown, 49, was killed in a San Bernardino motorcycle accident after a car made a left turn in front of him, the San Bernardino Sun reports. Brown was riding a black 2008 Harley-Davidson west on Yucca Trail the evening of August 17, 2009 in Yucca Valley, California, when the driver of a 2009 Ford Flex made a left turn in front of him at Indio Avenue, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said. The Ford driver, who was identified only as a 39-year-old woman from Joshua tree, had been driving east on Yucca Trail before the motorcycle-car collision. Brown died after he was taken to an area hospital.

Orange County Motorcycle Accident Injures Man

A 30-year-old man suffered critical injuries in an Orange County motorcycle accident after his motorcycle struck a slow-moving car on Beach Boulevard in Westminster, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the man was driving a red Yamaha R6 north on Beach near Bishop Street when he hit a Scion Coupe that was making a turn into a restaurant parking lot. The motorcyclist suffered head injuries and several broken bones, Westminster police officials said. The driver of the Scion was uninjured.

Fatal San Francisco Area DUI Car Accident

Paola Casara, a 32-year-old Italian tourist was killed and three members of a local family that was hosting her were injured in a San Francisco car accident after a drunk driver crashed into their car on Devil's Slide, the night of August 9, 2009, the San Mateo Daily Journal reports. Thomas Harold Randall, 51, struck a Ford Escape carrying Casara and her host family, after drinking beer and vodka all day in Pescadero, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Randall's blood alcohol level was 0.27 percent – more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Eyewitnesses say Randall was driving 75 mph in a 45 mph zone, traveled to the wrong side of the road and then overcorrected to the right, crashing into the Ford. The Ford spun out of control ejecting Casara and leaving the three other occupants with injuries. Officials say Randall was completely intoxicated and had no idea where he was. Randall is being charged with felony driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Ventura Car Accident Caused by Elderly Driver

A male employee at a restaurant suffered serious burn injuries in a Ventura car accident after an elderly woman crashed into the front of the restaurant and hit a deep fryer. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the worker was hospitalized with burns over 60 percent of his body. The car crash occurred the morning of August 15, 2009 in Thousand Oaks, California. Apparently, the woman who was driving through the parking lot hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. The employee was struck by hot oil from the deep fryer that was knocked over in the car crash. The woman, whose age and identity are still unknown, could face charges because of the serious injuries, officials said.

Two Injured in San Diego Car Accident

Roman Mercado, 23, was seriously hurt and another suffered injuries in a San Diego car accident after a car and a bus collided head-on the afternoon of August 12, 2009, 10news reports. California Highway Patrol officials said the car accident occurred near Olive Hill Road on State Route 76 in Bonsall, California when an eastbound 2002 Chrysler Sebring driven by Mercado, drifted into an oncoming lane for unknown reasons and crashed head-on into the bus. Mercado was trapped in the wrecked Sebring with severe injuries to his left leg. He was airlifted to an area hospital. One of 10 passengers who were riding in the North County Transit District bus suffered injuries. No one else was hurt.

I'm relieved to hear Mercado's injuries are not life threatening or catastrophic and also that no one on the bus was seriously injured. I wish both the injured victims the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

Fatal San Bernardino Car Accident

Benjamin Keil Allen, 26, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident early morning on August 12, 2009 when the Toyota Tundra pickup he was off-roading in Loma Linda, California, tipped over and crashed. Allen was driving the Tundra on Mountain View Avenue. He was ejected from the pickup truck and died when the truck ran him over, crushing his head and upper body. Loma Linda fire officials said Allen was not wearing a seatbelt. Three others, who were also in the vehicle at the time, were buckled up and did not suffer any injuries. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating this fatal car accident.

Hit-and-Run San Francisco Car Accident Injures Pedestrian

One person was critically injured in a San Francisco car accident the night of August 11, 2009 after being struck by a car on Van Ness Avenue, the San Francisco Examiner reports. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was walking near the intersection of California Street and Van Ness Avenue when a car hit him, San Francisco police said. After hitting the pedestrian, the motorist drove away from the scene of the car accident. Police do not have a description yet of the motorist or the suspect vehicle.

One person was hospitalized with injures in an Orange County car accident after an SUV overturned in a single-car accident, The Orange County Register reports. The car accident reportedly occurred on August 10, 2009 when the Dodge Durango hit a tree in the center divider on Edinger Avenue between Brookhurst and Euclid streets. Los Angeles Fatal Car Accident

A man was killed in a Los Angeles car accident involving two cars in Norwalk, California, on August 5, 2009. According to a news report in the Long Beach Press Telegram, the fatal car crash occurred in the 14400 block of Jersey Avenue in Norwalk, California. The car collision apparently involved a white pickup truck and a second vehicle whose occupant died at the scene. The victim has not been identified. Fatal San Francisco Car Accident

Two teens--including 19-year-old Gerard Gilbert--were killed and one other sustained major injuries in a San Francisco car accident on the 101 Freeway the night of August 4, 2009, the San Mateo County Times reports. California Highway Patrol officials say a red 1992 Honda Prelude that was repeatedly changing lanes swerved off northbound 101 near Oyster Point Boulevard. The vehicle rolled over once and came to stop in a ditch. Emergency personnel had to cut the roof of the car to get the occupants out.

San Bernardino Bus Accident Injures Two

Two people were injured in a San Bernardino bus accident on August 4, 2009 after the driver of an Omnitrans bus ran a red light and crashed into the back of a stopped vehicle. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the bus driver ran a red light at Base Line Street as he approached Webster Street in Highland, California. The bus hit the stopped vehicle and pushed it into another car that was making a left turn at the intersection. San Bernardino Sheriff's officials are not sure yet whether the injured passengers were on the Omnitrans bus or in the other two vehicles.

San Diego Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Michael Vankleeck, 44, died in a San Diego motorcycle accident following a car collision the afternoon of July 31, 2009, 10news reports. The fatal motorcycle crash reportedly occurred at the intersection of Nacion Avenue and Montclair Street in Chula Vista, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office. Vankleeck was riding a motorcycle southbound on Nacion Avenue and ended up broadsiding the vehicle at the street intersection. Vankleeck died in an area hospital shortly after the accident.

Los Angeles DUI Car Accident Injures Motorcycle Officer

A police officer was hospitalized with injuries in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident after he was struck in the Sun Valley area of Los Angeles by a suspected drunk driver, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. The car accident occurred the night of August 2, 2009 at Saticoy Street and Lankershim Boulevard when the motorist apparently made a left turn in front of the LAPD officer's motorcycle, Los Angeles police officials said. The officer was conscious and breathing, but complained of pain. He was hospitalized. The motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
