Los Angeles Car Accident Kills Man

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 10 deaths and 756 injuries in Palmdale involving car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 fatalities and 56,475 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of car accidents.

Based on this newspaper report, it is not clear how or why this California car accident occurred--and why the driver of the SUV collided with McWright who was walking alongside the car parked on the freeway shoulder. It is possible that the driver of the SUV swerved off his lane for an instant because he was distracted. It is also possible that the driver of the SUV did not see McWright walking along the shoulder because it was night and it could have been dark on the freeway. I trust CHP officials will conduct a thorough investigation and more details will emerge in the next few days.

Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer

In any such car accident where major injuries or fatalities are involved, it would be in the best interest of the victim’s family to consult with an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who will help determine whether there was any negligence or wrongdoing involved. If the driver of the SUV was at fault, he could be held liable for the accident and McWright's wrongful death. If there was a dangerous condition on the roadway that caused this fatal car accident, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Any such claim against a governmental agency in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, McWright had just finished fixing his car with help from a friend. Both their vehicles were parked on the shoulder of the freeway when a 20-year-old man driving a GMC Jimmy merged on to the freeway from an on-ramp, struck the friend's car and then McWright as he walked alongside the vehicle, California Highway Patrol officials said. Alcohol was not a factor in this fatal car accident, officials said.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of David McWright for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. My heart particularly, goes out to McWright's children, who were apparently in the stalled car and saw their father get hit that night. Please keep this family in your prayers.
