San Diego Car Accident Kills Motorcyclist

Garrett Bowman, 20, was killed in a San Diego car accident after a car turned left in front of him at a Rancho Penasquitos intersection, 10 news reports. Bowman was riding a motorcycle south on Black Mountain Road the evening of October 23, 2009 when a car headed north turned left on to Defreitas Avenue in front of him. Bowman was transported to a local hospital and had to undergo surgery, but died early morning on October 24. The driver of the car escaped with minor injuries, San Diego police said.

Riverside Car Accident Involved Bus and Several Vehicles

Several people may have been injured in a Riverside car accident after a bus crashed into several vehicles on the 215 Freeway near Iowa Avenue the evening of October 24, 2009. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the bus struck several vehicles and one of them reportedly caught fire. It is not clear who or how many people were injured in this collision.

San Bernardino Car Accident Kills Man

Robert K. Hamilton Jr., 37, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident the morning of October 25, 2009, The Press Enterprise reports. Hamilton and 32-year-old Rick Batiste were in a Chevy Monte Carlo heading north on Jonathan Street in Adelanto when the vehicle went out of control, flipped and landed on its roof. Batiste managed to get out of the vehicle before it caught fire. However, Hamilton did not make it and died as the fire spread quickly through the inside of the vehicle.

San Bernardino Car Accident Kills 12-year-old Bicyclist

Randy Vargas, 12, was killed in a Riverside car accident after he was struck by a pickup truck the evening of October 26, 2009. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, Randy was hit by a white Toyota pickup truck while riding his bicycle along the 27400 block of Jarvis Street, between Perris and Lake Elsinore. California Highway Patrol officials said the boy was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center in San Bernardino County. Randy Vargas died the morning of October 27, San Bernardino Coroner's officials said.

San Francisco Area Car Crash Kills Man

Roy Claxton, 79, was killed in a San Francisco car accident after his vehicle was struck head-on by a motor home, Bay City News reports. Claxton was heading south on Highway 1 in a 2004 Lexus and near Fort Ross State Historic Park the morning of October 25, 2006 when a 1996 Pace Arrow motor home hit the car. California Highway Patrol officials said the Lexus then slid off the roadway down an embankment. Claxton died at the scene and his 74-year-old wife, Muriel Claxton, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the motor home, 63-year-old Ellis Patterson, apparently told officials that his vehicle's brakes failed. Patterson was uninjured. Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in this crash.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Roy Claxton. I particularly sympathize with Muriel Claxton, who was also injured in the accident and witnessed her husband's demise. Please keep Muriel Claxton and her family in your prayers.

San Francisco Fatal Car Accident Caused by Street Racing

Alyson Snow, 20, was killed in a San Francisco car accident after her car was hit by a driver who officials say was involved in a street race. The fatal car accident occurred the night of October 22, 2009 on a San Jose road when Manual Pourmand and Joseph Inocencio were racing each other. One of the men apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into Snow, pushing her car into a tree. Snow died moments after the collision. Police say the suspects did not even know each other and only made contact at a street intersection when one challenged another to a speed contest.

San Diego Pedestrian Accident Injures Woman in Wheelchair

A 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair was injured in a San Diego car accident the afternoon of October 16, 2009 after she was hit by a speeding car, CBS News reports. The woman was apparently in an unmarked crosswalk in the 2300 block of Sixth Avenue near Balboa Park when the vehicle struck her. San Diego police officials said no alcohol or drugs were involved, but speed was a factor in the pedestrian-car crash. It's not clear whether the 55-year-old male driver was cited or arrested. The woman was taken to a San Diego hospital with a broken hip and other possible injuries.

San Francisco Hit-and-Run Car Accident Injures Parking Official

A parking enforcement officer was seriously injured in a San Francisco car accident the morning of October 16, 2009. San Francisco police said that the parking official was struck by a vehicle in the area of Third and Mission streets. The individual, who has not yet been identified, was hospitalized with injuries. The driver of the vehicle that hit and injured the official did not stop. Investigators are treating this as a hit-and-run car accident.

Riverside Hit-and-Run Car Accident Critically Injures Teen

A recent car accident in Riverside has critically injured a teenage girl as she was hit by a speeding driver near a street intersection. According to a CBS News report, the 17-year-old had been involved in fender-bender type collision the night of October 15, 2009, at the intersection of El Sobrante Road and Circle City Drive in Corona, California and had stepped out of her car to exchange insurance details with the other driver. Corona police say at this time a 1987 white Mercedes sedan raced through the intersection and struck the parked cars. The teen, who has not been identified, was trapped between the cars and sustained major injuries. The impact apparently severed one of her legs.

A Stanton woman on the way home from her regular walk was critically injured in a hit-and-run Orange County car accident, police said. The OC Register reported that the car accident happened on Oct. 20 along Magnolia Avenue at about 5 p.m.

Questions Multiply in Los Angeles Car Accident Involving Police Car

Friends and family of 25-year-old Devin Petelski, who was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after her car collided with an LAPD patrol car, are questioning the actions of police, paramedics and the accident investigation. According to a KPCC news report, the accident occurred on October 16, 2009. Petelski was driving home from the treatment center where she worked as a substance abuse counselor. She apparently stopped her BMW at the Glyndon Avenue stop sign , then pulled into the intersection to turn right onto Venice Boulevard when she collided with the police car. Petelski died on October 18 after she was taken off life support. One LAPD officer suffered a broken right hand and a cut to his left arm and the other officer suffered cuts and bruises.

Ventura Car Accident Kills Woman

Laura Hanson, 49, was killed in a Ventura car accident the morning of October 19, 2009 on Highway 33, the Ventura County Star reports. Her 8-year-old son, who was a passenger, sustained injuries that appeared to be minor, California Highway Patrol officials said. Hanson was driving south on the highway when her SUV began to fishtail and crashed off the freeway south of Nye Road. The SUV then rolled down a wooded embankment and hit a tree. Hanson was pronounced dead at the scene and her son, whose name was not released, was transported to an area hospital. Both Hanson and her son were wearing seatbelts. Investigators say Hanson was driving out of the Edison Drive curve at 35 to 40 mph when she crashed. The highway was also wet at the time, officials said.

San Bernardino DUI Car Accident Kills 6-year-old

Alyssa Hendricks, a 6-year-old girl, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident, after a suspected drunk driver struck the car she was riding in, according to a news report in The Desert Sun. California Highway Patrol officials say on October 16, 2009, 52-year-old Ronald Simon was drifting in and out of the westbound lanes on Highway 62 in Morongo Valley when he veered into oncoming traffic. Simon, who was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer, collided with a 2003 Kia Spectra, which was driven by 26-year-old Cameron Hendricks. Alyssa, who was in the left rear seat of the Kia, was transported to a local hospital following the crash, where she died of her injuries. Cameron Hendricks was also taken to a hospital with major injuries. Simon was not injured and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Man Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

Jose Esquivel, 50, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the morning of October 15, 2009 after his pickup truck crashed into a light pole. According to a report in the Pasadena Star News, the fatal accident occurred on Huntington Drive at Sunnyslope Avenue near San Gabriel Boulevard in the San Marino area. California Highway Patrol officials said Esquivel's Ford F-150 pickup truck veered to the right and struck a metal traffic signal pole. Officials have not yet determined what caused the pickup truck to go out of control. A 29-year-old passenger in the truck was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

Fatal Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Car Accident

Los Angeles police officials are asking for the public's help in finding a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a man in a Los Angeles car accident the evening of October 12, 2009. According to a post on LAPD's Web site, the victim was found lying in the number one lane of westbound 8th Street. He was apparently struck by a silver Mercedes Benz traveling west on 8th Street in the same lane. The Mercedes then continued west and stopped on Berendo Street. Police said the driver of the Mercedes then got out, walked around his vehicle and then got back in and drove away.

San Diego Car Accident Injures Man in Wheelchair

A man in a wheelchair sustained severe injuries in a San Diego car accident the afternoon of October 13, 2009 after he was struck by a driver who was apparently talking on his cell phone at the time of the collision. According to a news report on 10News, the injury accident occurred at Ninth Avenue and E Street. The driver collided with another vehicle before striking the man in the wheelchair. The vehicle came to a stop on top of the victim, San Diego police officials said. The victim was freed from under the vehicle and taken to an area hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.

San Diego DUI Car Accident Leaves Two Dead

Lance Corporal Robert T. Austin, 20, was killed in a San Diego car accident the morning of October 10, 2009 after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Austin, a U.S. Marine stationed in Twentynine Palms, was with a group of other Marines riding in a Jeep Cherokee that was involved in a minor crash. The Jeep was headed north on the 15 Freeway in Escondido when it was rear-ended by a driver of a Volvo, causing the Jeep to spin out of control. Austin and several others got out of the Jeep. Moments later, a Chevy Cavalier crashed into the Jeep. Austin was knocked off the freeway by the Cavalier and pushed down an embankment to the canyon below.

San Diego DUI Car Accident Kills Motorcyclist

Wayne Francis, 42, was killed in a San Diego car accident after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended his motorcycle at a Carlsbad intersection, 10news reports. Carlsbad police say Francis was stopped at a red light at Island Way when 41-year-old Keith Roles crashed his car into Francis' motorcycle. Roles suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Francis died shortly after the accident early morning October 10, 2009, of multiple blunt force injuries.

Los Angeles Car Accident Kills Elderly Woman

Ye Sook Le, 78, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after she was hit by a car while crossing a street in South Los Angeles. The driver, 54-year-old Rochelle Gilmore, initially fled the scene, but later turned herself in. The fatal pedestrian accident occurred October 7, 2009 near the intersection of 79th Street and Western Avenue. Eyewitnesses apparently told Los Angeles police that Le was crossing against a red light when she was struck down with an impact that knocked off her shoes. Gilmore later told police she didn't remember much of what happened at the accident. Police said Gilmore had the right-of-way, but was arrested for leaving the scene of the accident. Police are still investigating and asking anyone who saw the accident or has additional information to call 213-485-7336.

San Francisco Car Accident Injures Motorcycle Officer

A motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a San Francisco car accident after he was rear-ended by a van at a city intersection. According to a news article in the San Francisco Chronicle, the officer who was traveling north on Seventh Street, stopped at a green light the morning of October 6, 2009 to let an ambulance traveling through the intersection on Howard Street cross in front of him. The driver of the van that was behind the officer could not stop in time and collided with the motorcycle. San Francisco police said the skid marks stretched at least 20 feet along the road.

Riverside Rollover Car Accident Injures Three

Three people were hospitalized with injuries in an October 6, 2009 Riverside car accident after two vehicles went off the right side of the 10 Freeway and crashed. According to a news report in The Desert Sun, the accident occurred on the 10 East near Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City. California Highway Patrol officers say they don't know if the two vehicles collided. One car overturned a few yards from the roadway and the other went down and back up an embankment at a high rate of speed and flew over a fence before coming to a stop. The driver of the vehicle that rolled over was ejected. A passenger in that vehicle suffered back injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured. All three were taken to an area hospital.

Los Angeles Car Accident Seriously Injures Four

Four people suffered critical injuries in a Los Angeles car accident the morning of October 4, 2009 after their Toyota sedan plunged off the 605 Freeway in Long Beach and landed on its roof. According to a news report in the Long Beach Press Telegram, the single-vehicle car crash occurred on the 605 Freeway near Carson Street. Long Beach firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the trapped victims. The four victims were between the ages of 20 and 40 and were all transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Fatal Orange County Motorcycle Accident

Bradley Wilson, 37, was killed in an Orange County motorcycle accident after he lost control of his motorcycle, struck a parked vehicle and crashed. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of Oct. 2, 2009 near the intersection of Del Obispo Street and Village Road in Dana Point, California as Wilson was traveling north on Del Obispo. Orange County Sheriff's investigators say they are looking into why Wilson lost control of his motorcycle. Wilson died of blunt force trauma and other injuries.

Worker Killed in San Diego Workplace Accident

Antonio Gaspar, 38, died of serious personal injury after the bin of a dump truck he had driven to the Miramar Landfill in San Diego fell on him crushing him against the frame of the vehicle. According to a 10news report, Gaspar suffered fatal injuries at the waste processing yard in the 5100 block of Convoy Street the morning of September 29, 2009. Gaspar had just dumped his load of refuse from the modified Dodge 3500 truck when the mechanism used to tilt the rear bin got stuck. Gaspar worked under the container and tried to fix the problem, when the bin suddenly fell on top of him. Many of the landfill workers nearby, apparently managed to lift the bin off Gaspar, but were unsuccessful when they tried to resuscitate him.

California Car Accident Proves Fatal for 5-year-old Boy

Alex Arranaga, a 5-year-old boy, died recently from the injuries that he had sustained in a September 22, 2009 California car accident after he was struck by a car while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk on a bicycle. The tragic accident occurred as Alex, along with another 10-year-old boy, was attempting to cross Pacheco Boulevard in Los Banos, California, the Enterprise reports. The boys were on the bicycle and crossing the street when a motorist, who did not see the light turn red, struck the boys in the crosswalk. The 10-year-old was treated at a local hospital and released, but Alex died from his injuries. Police said drugs or alcohol were not involved. The 60-year-old driver was not cited or arrested pending an investigation.
