Orange County Car Accident Leaves Man in Critical Condition
Baron L. Mahling, 62, sustained critical injuries in an Orange County car accident after he veered into oncoming traffic and sideswiped another vehicle the afternoon of November 5, 2009. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Mahling was traveling east on Ellis Avenue in a gold 1996 Chevy Silverado at a high rate of speed, when he crossed into opposing lanes of traffic near Bushard Street and struck a 1998 Nissan Frontier truck driven by 31-year-old Todd B. Gruca.
The Silverado then continued across the street, jumping the curb, taking out a power pole and hitting a block wall. Mahling sustained major head and chest injuries and has been listed in critical condition. Fountain Valley police's preliminary investigation has found Mahling at fault for crossing into oncoming traffic at high speed. The accident is still under investigation and anyone who saw this car crash is asked to call police at 714-593-4481.

I hope and pray that Mahling is recovering from his critical injuries. I wish him the very best for a complete recovery. It is not clear whether the other driver Todd B. Gruca was injured. I certainly hope he did not sustain any major injuries. Please keep the injured victim in your prayers.
According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were four fatalities and 476 injuries involving car accidents in Fountain Valley, California. In Orange County as a whole, 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.
Car Accident Causes
Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused Mahling to lose control of his vehicle and go into the opposing lanes of traffic. There are many unanswered questions here. Was this accident caused by auto product defects or mechanical malfunctions in the Silverado? Did Mahling suffer a medical condition? This news report does not indicate that he was intoxicated, distracted or fatigued. Something seems to have gone horribly wrong either with the vehicle or Mahling. I trust the official investigation will reveal what happened here. Mahling's family deserves answers.
In cases where auto product defects are suspected, it would be in the victims' best interest to consult with a reputed Orange County personal injury lawyer, who is well-versed in dealing with auto product liability issues. If this accident was caused by a defective product or a malfunction, the auto maker could be held liable for Mahling's injuries. In such cases, victims may seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, long-term care and other related costs.
