Orange County Woman Killed in Car Accident

Jessica Ann Faber, 18, a Huntington Beach resident was killed in a car accident on the Interstate 80 near Truckee, California, after her vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver. According to a news report in The Union, Faber and 23-year-old passenger, Gregory Wessels, were on their way to a property in Truckee owned by Faber's family. California Highway Patrol officials said Faber was driving east on the Interstate 80 the morning of December 29, 2009, when a vehicle being driven the wrong way by 21-year-old Christopher Dann struck Faber's car head-on. Faber's vehicle caught fire. She died at the scene as did Dann. Wessels sustained major injuries and burns and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Los Angeles Car Accident Critically Injures Woman

A woman sustained critical injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after her car was involved in a collision with a pickup truck the morning of December 29, 2009. According to a news report in The Long Beach Press Telegram, the major injury car crash occurred at the intersection of Bellflower Boulevard and Alondra Boulevard. Firefighters brought in heavy cutting equipment to free the victim from the wreckage. The woman was then taken to an area hospital. She was listed in critical condition.

Fatal San Bernardino Car Accident

James Harris, 60, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another car. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, the crash occurred the evening of December 26, 2009 on Highway 18, near Colorado Road, as Harris was heading east in a 2008 Pontiac G6. A westbound driver on the highway, while attempting to pass another westbound vehicle, crossed over into opposing traffic lanes and crashed head-on into Harris' car. Harris was transported to an area hospital where he died. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating this fatal car accident.

Los Angeles DUI Car Accident Injures Three

Three people sustained serious injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a stopped car at a street intersection in West Covina, the evening of December 25, 2009. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the driver was identified as a man in his 30s who was traveling south on Lark Ellen when his 1989 Honda Accord slammed into the back of a 2006 Dodge Challenger. West Covina police say the man was possibly drunk at the time. A female passenger in the rear-ended Challenger, was taken to an area hospital for pelvic injuries. Another passenger in the Dodge was also hospitalized for head and neck injuries.

I'm relieved to hear that none of the injuries sustained in this car crash were life-threatening. I hope and pray that the two injured Dodge passengers make a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.

Metrolink Train Accident Critically Injures Two

A San Fernando Valley car accident involving a Metrolink commuter train caused critical injuries to two people including a baby. The Los Angeles Times reports that the accident happened the morning of December 23, 2009 near the intersection of North San Fernando Road and Branford Street. The incident occurred after two cars crashed on San Fernando Road. One of the cars got pushed on to the tracks where it was struck by the train. The Metrolink train that was going from Los Angeles to Lancaster had a number of passengers and officials say at least 30 of them sustained minor injuries as a result of this collision. Two others in the cars were also injured, but the extent of their injuries is not known.

I sympathize with all the injured victims here. It's indeed fortunate that more people were not seriously hurt. I wish all these victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery and hope that the two critically injured victims, including the infant, make it through their injuries.

Distracted Driver Caused Fatal Car Accident, Officials Say

A 27-year-old driver sustained fatal injuries in a car accident after colliding head-on with another vehicle in Santa Barbara County, the afternoon of December 18, 2009. According to a KCOY news report, the fatal car collision involved a gray Acura and a Nissan SUV. The driver of the Nissan was taken to an area hospital with injuries. However, the driver of the Acura died. This fatal car accident may have been due to one of the drivers using a cell phone at the time of the crash, California Highway Patrol officials said.

One Dead, Five Injured in Oregon Car Accident

Robert L. Randis, 69, was killed and five others were injured in an Oregon car accident after a Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the centerline on the Oregon 22, near Idanha. According to a KGW news report, the accident occurred the afternoon of December 19, 2009, when the driver of the Jeep, Dorian J. Dolinajec, 23, sideswiped Randis' Hyundai before crashing into a 2006 Ford pickup driven by 61-year-old Jessie E. Alway. Three passengers in Randis' car -- Beverly J. Randis, 67; Nicole Bowerman, 10, and Karlie J. Callin, 13 -- were transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Dolinajec sustained serious injuries, while Alway's injuries were minor, officials said.

Fatal California Car Accident Involved Driver Distracted by Cell Phone

A 27-year-old man was killed in a car accident in Santa Barbara County after his vehicle was struck head-on by another car. The fatal car accident occurred the afternoon of December 18, 2009, when a gray Acura sedan and a green Nissan SUV collided with each other. The driver of the Acura was killed and the driver of the Nissan SUV was transported to a local hospital. California Highway Patrol officials are still investigating the cause of this crash, but believe that a cell phone may have distracted one of the drivers.

Woman Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

Teresa Andrade, 71, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the afternoon of December 20, 2009, after a fleeing hit-and-run driver struck her car. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, Andrade was ejected from her car when an SUV struck it on Wilmington Avenue near Raymond Street, in Compton. The SUV was going north on Wilmington when it struck a woman on a motorcycle who was traveling in the same direction. The driver of the SUV slowed down as if he were going to stop or pull over but instead made a U-turn and crashed into the vehicle carrying Andrade.

The driver fled the site of the crash, but his SUV's license plate had fallen off at the scene. Los Angeles Sheriff's officials traced the license plate to a Compton home where they detained three people. However, the driver was brought in to the Compton police station by family members shortly after the accident. Officials have not yet identified the driver.

Woman Killed in Los Angeles DUI Car Accident

A 41-year-old woman was killed in a Los Angeles car accident caused by a suspected drunk driver the morning of December 20, 2009, the Pasadena Star News reports. California Highway Patrol officials say 43-year-old Thomas E. Vanauken was driving a 2009 Acura MDX SUV on the 10 Freeway near Santa Anita Avenue, in El Monte. He was in the number one lane and traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly over 120 mph, according to eyewitnesses. The woman was also in the number one lane and in front of the Acura, driving a 1995 Mitsubishi with two passengers, when she slowed down for traffic ahead.

Vanauken's vehicle then rear-ended the Mitsubishi. She died shortly afterward at a local hospital. One of the passengers in the Mitsubishi, a 32-year-old woman sustained moderate injuries, while the other, a 35-year-old woman was uninjured. Vanauken sustained minor injuries and was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, drunk driving causing death and felony drunk driving.

Orange County Car Accident Causes Injuries

Three people sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident, after two vehicles collided near a street intersection the morning of December 15, 2009, The Orange County Register reports. The injury car crash apparently occurred at the intersection of Westminster Boulevard and Newland Street when a Toyota Sienna van crashed into a Toyota Corolla. Injured in the crash were a 47-year-old woman, a 43-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man. The man sustained head injuries while the women complained of pain. All three were transported to an area hospital. Westminster police officials are investigating the incident.

Riverside Car Accident Leaves One Dead

A woman, who was killed in a Riverside car accident, after the SUV which she was riding in crashed with another vehicle, has been identified by officials as 61-year-old Lillian Biundo. According to news reports and county officials, the fatal car accident occurred at the intersection of Mapes and Menifee roads, when the driver of a Honda van failed to yield right-of-way to the Ford Excursion SUV in which Biundo was a passenger. Menifee police officials say the Honda Odyssey van that was going east on Mapes did not stop for northbound traffic on Menifee.

Biundo was ejected from the Excursion and died at the scene. Six others in the SUV were also injured including a child who sustained serious injuries. The SUV was crumpled on impact and firefighters had to extricate some of the occupants from the wreckage. The driver of the Odyssey, who is believed to have caused this fatal crash, was not injured.

Riverside DUI Car Accident Fatally Injures Motorcyclist

Brian C. Sgambati, 23, was killed in a Riverside car accident, after a suspected drunk driver crashed head-on into his motorcycle early morning on December 17, 2009, The Press Enterprise reports. Sgambati was riding his motorcycle along Limonite Avenue in Mira Loma when 56-year-old Valentin Feliciano, who was driving a 1993 Chevy pickup truck, struck Sgambati head-on. Sgambati succumbed to his injuries. Feliciano, who officials say has had several prior DUI arrests, was arrested this time on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.

Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Elderly Pedestrian

An 89-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a Los Angeles car accident, after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road. The major injury collision in West Covina occurred the morning of December 15, 2009, when the man was crossing at the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Durness Street, in a marked crosswalk. The driver stopped right away and called 911. He told West Covina police that he did not see the elderly man crossing the street. The victim was airlifted to an area hospital with severe head injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

Two Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

Ricardo Alcantar, 21, and Matthew Gibbons, 20, were killed in a Los Angeles car accident the night of December 12, 2009, after their car crashed near Long Beach Airport. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, the small two-door hatchback driven by Alcantar was traveling east on Spring Street, when it crashed into a tunnel divider causing the vehicle to be sliced in two pieces. Both Alcantar and Gibbons were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are looking into what caused this fatal car accident.

Orange County Car Accident Leaves Two Injured

A driver may have sustained serious injuries in an Orange County car accident, after a crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the driver of the a Jeep was traveling on Pacific Coast Highway, near Niguel Road, the evening of December 13, 2009, when the vehicle crashed into a tree and rolled on to its side. The driver was thrown out of the vehicle and a female passenger was trapped inside. She was pulled out of the Jeep by firefighters. The extent of the victims' injuries is not known although both were transported to area hospitals. Officials are still investigating the cause of this accident.

Woman Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

A woman who was fatally injured in a Los Angeles car accident, after the car she was a passenger in was struck by another vehicle, has been identified as 50-year-old Dalila Enriquez. The Whittier Daily News reports that the December 9, 2009 collision occurred at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Lambert Road when a Toyota Corolla, driven by 22-year-old Jordan Ashley Brown, was making a left turn and was broadsided by a Chevy Silverado truck. Enriquez was a passenger in the Corolla and died later that day. Brown and Richard Parker, the 24-year-old driver of the Silverado, were uninjured.

San Francisco Hit-and-Run Car Accident Seriously Injures Speed Walker

Authorities are looking for the public's help to locate the hit-and-run driver who struck and injured a woman in a San Francisco car accident on November 26, 2009. According to a CBS News report, the woman in her 60s, who is well-known to the locals as a speed walker who often exercised in the area, was walking along the side of the road on Lincoln Boulevard the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day. A cyclist found the woman, injured, shortly after the accident. She was hospitalized with serious injuries including a broken jaw, missing teeth and a missing collarbone. Police are still looking for the hit-and-run suspect, but are now also, seeking two "men of interest" who they say may know something about this injury car accident.

Los Angeles Car Accident Proves Fatal for Woman

Dalila Enriquez, 50, died of injuries she sustained in a Los Angeles car accident the afternoon of December 9, 2009. According to a report in the Whittier Daily News, Enriquez was a passenger in a 2007 Toyota Corolla when a Chevrolet truck hit it, at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Lambert Road, in Whittier. Jordan Ashley Brown, 22, the driver of the Corolla was southbound on 1st Avenue and was attempting a left turn on to Lambert Road, when a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling north on 1st Avenue, broadsided her. Enriquez succumbed to her injuries shortly after the crash. Richard Parker, 24, the driver of the pickup truck and Brown were not injured.

Newport Beach Motorcyclist Killed in Riverside Car Accident

Robert Grice, Jr., 50, was killed in a Riverside car accident after his motorcycle collided head-on with a car, near Lake Elsinore, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Grice was riding his 2008 Ducati motorcycle on Ortega Highway the morning of December 6, 2009, when a Toyota Corolla crossed the center divide and crashed into his motorcycle. California Highway Patrol officials said the Corolla was traveling at about 45 mph when it swerved into opposing lanes to avoid a slowing vehicle. Grice was thrown off his motorcycle in the collision and sustained fatal injuries.

Bus Accident in Los Angeles Leaves One Dead

A 47-year-old driver was killed in a Los Angeles bus accident after she apparently crashed the bus into a fire hydrant. According to a news report in the Daily Breeze, the accident occurred the morning of December 9, 2009 at Normandie Avenue and 220th Street in Carson, when the bus went out-of-control, broke off a fire hydrant and knocked down several poles. The driver of the bus was pronounced dead at the scene, possibly due to a cardiac arrest. Investigators are still trying to determine whether the woman's cardiac arrest preceded the crash or occurred after the accident. There were four passengers on board the City of Gardena municipal bus. Thankfully, none of the passengers was injured.

Orange County Car Accident Caused by Rain and Speed

Two people were injured in an Orange County car accident the morning of December 7, 2009, a crash that officials say was caused by drivers going too fast in the rain. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the collision involved six vehicles that were heading east on Bake Parkway in Lake Forest. A gray colored Nissan Altima was initially rear-ended, pushed on to the sidewalk and the grass embankment. The Altima was hit by a white car, which officials say fled the scene of the crash. A silver Acura crashed into the back of the white car. Another Nissan Altima then, ran into the Acura and was in turn, hit by a Chevy pickup truck. That Chevy truck was struck by a Dodge pickup.

Ventura Car Accident Kills Pedestrian

Laurie Perr, 50, was killed in a Ventura car accident after she was struck by an UPS struck, during an evening walk with a friend. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the accident happened the evening of December 4, 2009, when Perr was about to cross Worth Way at a stop sign, near Upland Road in Camarillo. The UPS truck was making a right turn from Worth on to Upland when it hit Perr. She was pronounced dead shortly after the accident. An investigation is ongoing. Off-duty Police Officer Dies in Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident

Kenneth Aragon, 48, an off-duty LAPD officer was killed in a motorcycle accident the morning of December 3, 2009 after he apparently lost control and crashed. According to a KTLA News report, the accident occurred near the intersection of Fletcher Drive and Larga Avenue in the Atwater Village area. Officials do not believe any other vehicles were involved in this crash. An investigation is ongoing.

Marine Killed in Riverside Rollover Car Accident

Lance Cpl. Brian J. Adams, 21, of the U.S. Marines and Charles Hutchinson, 20, were fatally injured in a Riverside car accident the morning of November 26, 2009. According to a 10news report, the fatal car accident occurred on the eastbound state Route 62, near Desert Willow Trail early morning on Thanksgiving Day. Adams died at the scene. Hutchinson, who was the driver, died the following day in a local hospital. Another passenger in the Saturn was also injured, but is said to be in stable condition. The California Highway Patrol is investigating this tragic crash.

Los Angeles Car Accident Kills 15-year-old Pedestrian

Garrett Wheeler, 15, was killed and another person was injured in a Los Angeles car accident after they were both struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Leimert Park, CBS News reports. The crash occurred the afternoon of December 3, 2009 at the intersection of 50th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard. Witnesses told Los Angeles police that Garrett and the other male were both hit by a compact SUV as they crossed the street. The 15-year-old boy died at the scene. The other victim was taken to the hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known. Police said the driver of the SUV was uninjured.

One Dead and Two Injured in Orange County Car Accident

Roberta Coder, 82, has died after sustaining critical injuries in an Orange County car accident the afternoon of November 30, 2009. However, officials say that her death was due to natural causes unrelated to the accident. Coder was traveling in one of two cars that collided at the intersection of Mesa Drive and Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa, The Orange County Register reports. A Chevy Trailblazer was going west on Mesa and collided with a Ford Focus, which was northbound on Newport Boulevard, Costa Mesa police said.

Ventura Car Accident Injures Two Young Pedestrians

Two girls were injured, one of them critically, in a Ventura car accident as they attempted to cross the street the afternoon of November 29, 2009. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the 11- and 12-year-old girls were crossing Saticoy Avenue near the Ventura Community Church, when a car driven by 43-year-old Esaul Alamillo struck them. Police say there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol at the scene. Both girls were taken to an area hospital and one of them suffered critical injuries. Ventura police officials are looking into what caused this accident.

Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Two Including LAPD Cop

A police officer has been injured in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by an 85-year-old driver in Van Nuys the afternoon of November 29, 2009. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the officer had stopped to issue a citation to a motorist he had pulled over, when the elderly woman struck both the officer and the car that got pulled over. The collision threw the officer onto the driver's windshield, LAPD officials said. The officer sustained head injuries and was transported to an area hospital. He is listed in stable condition. The other person who was pulled over suffered a knee injury and was also taken to a hospital. The senior driver, who apparently caused the accident, was uninjured.
