San Bernardino Car Accident Injures Two

Two people were hospitalized with injuries after a San Bernardino car accident, which involved five vehicles. According to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press, the accident occurred the afternoon of February 25, 2010, when a blue Honda driven by Jerimiah DeGrandis and heading west on Bear Valley Road, near Cobalt Road, swerved suddenly and was hit on the passenger side. A silver Ford pickup truck traveling behind the Honda then swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a BMW heading east and driven by Corey Lathrop, 21. Two other vehicles that were following the BMW were also involved in the collision. DeGrandis and the driver of the Ford truck were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Officials are still trying to determine what caused the Honda to swerve and have not arrested or cited anyone yet.

I'm relieved that none of those involved in this accident sustained critical or life-threatening injuries. I wish the injured victims the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.

Three Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

A San Bernardino car accident involving a head-on collision resulted in the deaths of three people the night of February 20, 2010. The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports that the fatal car accident occurred on the Highway 395 near Rancho Road in Adelanto. California Highway Patrol officials said Brandon Vinson, who was traveling south on the highway, veered into oncoming traffic lanes and collided head-on with a 2003 Hyundai SUV. The driver of the SUV, 42-year-old Denise Jackson and the 20-year-old passenger, Patrice Spead, were ejected from the vehicle. Both sustained fatal injuries. Vinson was also ejected and died at a local hospital.

San Bernardino DUI Car Accident Causes Critical Injuries

Charlotte Anderson, 64 and Stephen Anderson, 63, were seriously injured in a San Bernardino car accident after the car they were in was rear-ended by a speeding driver who is also suspected to have been driving under the influence. According to a news report in the Hi Desert Star, 28-year-old Jennifer Belle was driving a 2006 Nissan Armada at speeds of about 85 mph the evening of February 19, 2010 on a Joshua Tree roadway.

She was unable to control her SUV and collided into the back of a Chevy Lumina driven by Charlotte Anderson. Charlotte Anderson sustained critical injuries while her passenger, Stephen Anderson, was in serious condition. Belle was not seriously injured and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Orange County Car Accident Proves Fatal for Woman

Lorena Mancinas, 30, was killed in an Orange County car accident after her 2003 Chevy Tahoe SUV was hit by another car and crashed the afternoon of February 24, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Mancinas was driving in the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway, near Glassell Street, and was ahead of a 2000 Toyota driven by Young Woo Lee, 26. The accident occurred as Lee made a lane change and struck the rear of the Chevy, California Highway Patrol officials said. The Tahoe spun off the roadway and went into a guardrail before rolling over numerous times. Firefighters had to cut into the vehicle to extricate Mancinas. Officials have not made any arrests yet, pending an investigation.

Fatal San Bernardino Car Accident

Yesenia Lopez, 36, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident that occurred the evening of February 22, 2010 after the vehicle she was driving was struck by another car. The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports Lopez was driving south on Foothill Boulevard near Laurel Avenue, in Fontana, when her silver 2002 Honda hit a 2009 Kia. Lopez was transported to a local hospital where she died.

San Bernardino Car Accident Leaves Three Dead

Three people were killed in a San Bernardino car accident after two cars collided head-on in Adelanto, the night of February 20, 2010. Los Angeles Woman Seriously Injured in Car Accident

Madeline Mezger, 19, was seriously injured in a car accident after she was struck by a vehicle while walking with friends in San Luis Obispo. According to a news report, Mezger was walking across California Boulevard from the railroad tracks on February 21, 2010, when she had stopped in the middle of the street. A 2009 Nissan Cube driven by 21-year-old Anthony Micheal Colicchio struck her. The driver told police that Mezger was wearing black and that he did not see her in time to avoid the collision. Mezger was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. Officials do not believe Colicchio was under the influence of alcohol. An investigation is ongoing.

San Diego Motorcycle Accident Causes Injuries

Two people were injured in a San Diego car accident the morning of February 14, 2010 after the motorcycle they were on, was struck by another vehicle. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the injury crash between a car and the motorcycle occurred at the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Christiansen Way. The car, which struck the motorcycle, was being driven by a 16-year-old, authorities said. The motorcyclist and his passenger, a woman, were taken to a local hospital with major injuries. The teen driver and her passenger did not sustain any injuries. An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.

Fatal California DUI Car Accident

A man who was killed in a car accident the night of February 16, 2010, has been identified as 58-year-old Robert G. Roe. The Record-Bee reports that the accident occurred on Highway 20, in Lake County, when 44-year-old Daren Norman, who was driving a Nissan Altima west, crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head-on into Roe's Honda Civic. Norman was trying to pass a big rig when he crossed over to opposing lanes of traffic, California Highway Patrol officials said. Roe was pronounced dead at the scene. Norman was severely injured, but has been charged with felony DUI

One Killed, One Injured in Los Angeles Car Accident

One person was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the night of February 18, 2010 after two vehicles collided head-on in the El Sereno area. According to a CBS News report, the fatal car accident occurred on Eastern Avenue, north of Klamath Place. The driver of the vehicle that was headed northbound died at the scene. Los Angeles firefighters extricated one motorist from wreckage. A woman driving the southbound vehicle was taken to a local hospital with injuries. The extent of her injuries is not known.

Fatal Head-on Crash Caused by Suspected Drunk Driver

Robert G. Roe, 58, was killed in a car accident the night of February 16, 2010 after a suspected drunk driver struck him. According to a news report in The Record-Bee, 44-year-old Daren K. Norman was driving a Nissan Altima west on Highway 20. Norman crossed over double yellow lines attempting to overtake a big rig and went head-on into Roe's Honda Civic hatchback. Roe died at the scene. Norman was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. California Highway Patrol officials say they have reason to believe Norman had been drinking. Norman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Two

Two people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident after a Los Angeles County Fire Department squad car collided with a Chevy Blazer SUV at an intersection in Hacienda Heights. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the two cars collided the afternoon of February 15, 2010 at the intersection of Los Robles Avenue and Turnbull Canyon Road. Two occupants of the Chevy Blazer were injured but did not have to be hospitalized. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the accident.

Family of Four Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

A chain-reaction San Bernardino car accident involving several vehicles led to the deaths of 32-year-old Ryan Villalpando, his 29-year-old wife Veronica, 4-year-old son Mateo and infant daughter Bella Rose. According to a KTLA News report, the fatal car accident occurred the afternoon of February 13, 2010 on the 15 Freeway near Jurupa Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials said the crash involved two big rigs, a U-Haul truck and two passenger vehicles. Three others sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are still looking into which one of the vehicles caused this tragic car crash.

My heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved this young family. According to news reports Villalpando was a beloved football coach at Moreno Valley High School. Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Riverside Car Accident

A Riverside car accident involving a SuperShuttle van on Highway 111 caused serious head injuries to a bicyclist, The Desert Sun reports. The injury collision happened the morning of February 11, 2010 near Gateway Road, when the SuperShuttle van was headed north in the right lane of the highway. The driver told police he had noticed the bicyclist riding in the shoulder before he made a sudden left turn movement in front of the van. That caused the van driver to brake and swerve. The van still struck the bicyclist and another car. The bicyclist sustained serious injuries. The occupants of the other car and the van driver were not injured.

I sincerely hope the bicyclist did not suffer any catastrophic injuries and recovers quickly and completely.

Three Injured in Costa Mesa Car Accident Involving Drunk Driver

54-year-old David Moore and 42-year-old Kirk Fletcher were injured in a Costa Mesa car accident, which police say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. The Orange County Register reports that the car crash occurred on the 55 Freeway near 19th Street, when 33-year-old Juan Delgado Jr. lost control of his car, and hit three cars that were stopped at a red light. Delgado was taken to a local hospital with broken bones. Moore sustained facial injuries while Fletcher suffered a cut to his arm. One other driver, 63-year-old Verity Hobbs, escaped uninjured. Police said speed and alcohol played a part in this injury crash.

Fatal Car Accident Caused by Drunk Driver

A 48-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries in a car accident after her vehicle was struck head-on by a suspected drunk driver on February 11, 2010. According to a CBS News report, the fatal car accident occurred on Highway 99 when 19-year-old Gill Kushdeep was driving the wrong way on the highway near Bradbury Road, in Atwater. Both Kushdeep and the woman were transported to the hospital, but the female victim died shortly afterward. Kushdeep sustained minor injuries and has been charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

San Francisco Bicyclists Look To Promote New Laws for Bike-Friendly Roads

At a time when concerns for the environment have moved people to use alternative transportation, including public transport, walking and bicycling, those getting from here to there without a car are finding the roads to be a bit "bumpy."

With a mixture of cars and bicycles on the congested streets, many accidents happen that leave bicyclists with severe injuries. It seems that the laws in place do not bend for the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, and that is why bicycle coalitions across California are working together to get new laws passed.

According to SF Streets Blog, a site committed to providing alternative-transportation news to the public and promoting "livable streets," the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC) has three ideas they'd like to see become laws.

Fatal California Car Accident Caused by Distracted Driver

Luis Sarabia Trujillo, 23, was identified as the driver who was killed in a car accident which officials say was caused by distraction. The crash also killed one of his passengers, 20-year-old Omar Gaytan. According to a news report in The Daily Democrat, the accident occurred on February 4, 2010. David Pearl, 53, was driving his 2002 Ford Ranger pickup north on County Road 89 near CR-26 when he became distracted with the CD player in his truck.

California Highway Patrol officials said Pearl's truck drifted off the right shoulder causing him to overcorrect and sending him into the path of a 1997 Grand Am, driven by Trujillo and traveling in the southbound lane. The result was a head-on collision. Trujillo sustained major head injuries and died at the scene. Pearl sustained minor injuries. Edward Blanco, 30, and Francisco Gonzalez, 24, both passengers in Trujillo's car, were taken to the hospital with injuries.

San Diego Car Accident Injures Two

Two people were injured in a San Diego car accident after a head-on collision on the Interstate 8 near Alpine, the night of February 7, 2010. According to a news report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident occurred west of Route 79, when a 66-year-old woman driving a 1998 Chevy Lumina west on I-8 went off the roadway, through the dirt and grass divide, and into opposing lanes of traffic where she struck two cars.

The woman had to be freed from her vehicle and sustained serious injuries including a broken ankle and internal injuries. A 27-year-old driver in a 2007 Honda Accord, which was struck head-on by the Lumina, was hospitalized with injuries. Another 34-year-old driver of a second vehicle struck by the Lumina was uninjured.

Mother and Son Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

Merced Molina, 52, and her 19-year-old son, Javier Molina, were killed in a San Bernardino car accident on the 15 Freeway the morning of February 6, 2010. According to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press, Merced Molina was driving a 1999 Mercury Villager south on the 15 Freeway, near Highway 138, with her husband and son, when they hit the rear of a tow truck. The truck was stopped on the freeway to assist a disabled car. Merced Molina was pronounced dead at the scene and her son, Javier, died later at a local hospital. It is not clear whether Merced's husband sustained any injuries.

My heart goes out to the Molina family for the devastating loss they have suffered. To lose two beloved family members so suddenly is extremely tragic. This family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Fatal Los Angeles Car Accident

Julius Glover, 22, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after his Honda Civic collided with a Mercedes-Benz in Santa Clarita the night of February 5, 2010. According to a news report in The Signal, Glover was driving at the legal speed limit on the 5 Freeway near Calgrove Boulevard, and was behind and to the right of the Mercedes, when its driver lost control and entered Glover's lane. The front of the Mercedes struck the Civic's front side, pushing it into the center divider.

The Civic then slid along the wall, went over and landed on the right shoulder of The Old Road. Glover sustained fatal injuries and his passenger, 24-year-old Louisa Hezseltine, suffered major injuries. The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured. California Highway Patrol officials do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to this accident, but they suspect rain and the wet roadway may have played a part.

Student Injured in San Diego School Bus Accident

A student sustained injuries in a San Diego car accident after a school bus collided with a car at a street intersection. San Diego 6 reports that the accident occurred the morning of January 29, 2010 at the intersection of Carlton Oaks Drive and West Hills Parkway in the city of Santee. Authorities said they were six other students on board the school bus, but all others were uninjured.

One Injured in Los Angeles Car Accident Involving Drunk Driver

A man was injured in a Los Angeles car accident which officials say was caused by a driver who was under the influence. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, the accident occurred on January 30, 2010 when the driver, 40-year-old Miguel Alcaraz, ran a red light at the intersection of Lark Ellen Avenue and Puente Avenue in West Covina. He then crashed into a Honda minivan that was headed west on Puente Avenue. Alcaraz tried to flee the scene of the accident, but was stopped by a police officer, not far from the scene of the crash. The driver of the minivan suffered a broken hand among other injuries, but he is expected to survive.

Bakersfield DUI Car Accident Caused by Off-Duty Fireman Kills Woman

Michelle Marie Maxwell, 42, was killed in a Bakersfield car accident after officials say her vehicle was struck by an off-duty firefighter who was driving drunk and ran a red light. According to a news report in The Californian, the fatal car crash occurred the night of February 2, 2010 at Panama Lane and Ashe Road when 30-year-old Mitchell Green ran a red light in his Ford-150 pickup truck at the intersection and crashed into the passenger side of a Hyundai. Maxwell died at the scene. Michaela, Maxwell's 15-year-old daughter who was driving the Hyundai, also sustained injuries. Green was also injured, but was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.

My heart goes out to the Maxwell family for their sudden and devastating loss. Michelle Maxwell was apparently on her way with her daughter to sign a quilt for a young leukemia patient. Tragic! Los Angeles Car Accident Causes Fatal Injuries

Salvador Hernandez, 62, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after the taxi cab in which he was a passenger struck a parked vehicle in South El Monte. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred in the 9500 block of Garvey Avenue the night of January 31, 2010 when the cab hit a parked Toyota Tundra. The cab driver was hospitalized with injuries he suffered as a result of airbag deployment. Hernandez suffered trauma to his heart. He was transported to a hospital where he died about an hour after the car accident.

Driver Charged with Manslaughter in San Jose Area Car Accident

Joshua Ryan West, 28, was identified as the bicyclist who was fatally injured in a San Jose car accident the morning of February 1, 2010. The San Jose Mercury News reports that 50-year-old Kevin Derr, the driver of the Chevy Blazer that struck and killed West, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. Police say Derr, in an attempt to get past slow-moving traffic on Lark Avenue, sped, jumped the curb and struck West who was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. Some eyewitnesses told police that Derr was going 50 mph in a 30mph zone. Police say they believe Derr was "grossly negligent" in this case.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joshua Ryan West for their heartbreaking loss. Apparently, West had just dropped off his 7-year-old daughter Briana at school and was heading to a physical therapy session for back problems, when the fatal bicycle accident occurred. Tragic! This family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Newport Beach Car Accident Victim Alleges Dangerous Roadway Condition

Brandi Lynn Sutton, a 24-year-old woman, who suffered serious injuries in a Newport Beach car accident, has filed a claim against the city for a dangerous roadway condition. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Sutton was in a crosswalk at the intersection of West Balboa Boulevard and 26th Street when she was hit by a taxi. Sutton says that the crosswalk was poorly lit, causing the accident. She broke both bones in her lower leg and suffered a concussion, knee, back and elbow injuries.

Elderly Pedestrian Killed in Orange County Car Accident

An 80-year-old man sustained fatal injuries in an Orange County car accident after he was struck by a car the morning of January 29, 2010 while crossing the street, The Orange County Register reports. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was crossing at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Bolsa Avenue in Seal Beach when the vehicle hit him. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where he died.
