Riverside Car Accident Injures Five

A rollover accident in Riverside left five people injured the afternoon of May 26, 2010. KPSP news reports that the accident occurred on the 10 Freeway in Indio after a car's tire blew out and the driver lost control. The car overturned on the freeway and five occupants were trapped inside. Firefighters had to rescue them out of the vehicle. One victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Others suffered moderate injuries. Officials are trying to determine the cause of the crash.

Los Angeles Car Accident Kills Man

A car accident in Los Angeles left a 32-year-old man dead and another man injured the morning of May 22, 2010. The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the accident occurred on the 134 Freeway near Harvey Drive, in Glendale. The 32-year-old driver of a Honda Civic apparently drifted into an adjacent lane and struck a GMC box van from behind. The van went out of control and turned over to its side. The Honda's driver was killed at the scene. The other driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Man Killed in Sacramento Hit-and-Run Car Accident

Adan Brock, 50, was killed in a Sacramento car accident after he was struck by a vehicle on the Interstate 80 near Watt Avenue. According to a news report, Brock was hit by a Mercedes SUV and thrown into the center divide. He died at the scene of the collision. California Highway Patrol officials say Brock may have been walking near traffic lanes early morning on May 18, 2010. It is not clear why he was walking there.

Motorcyclist Killed in Long Beach Car Accident

Jose Bazen, 26, was killed in a Long Beach car accident after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at a local intersection. According to a news report in the Contra Costa Times, the fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Market Street and Walnut Avenue on May 20, 2010. Long Beach police officials said a driver of a 1994 Cadillac DeVille came to a complete stop at the intersection, but failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled out in front of the motorcycle.

Luis Magana, 52, was killed and three others were injured in a Los Angeles car accident that involved several vehicles and multiple victims. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal crash occurred early morning on May 24, 2010 in the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Diamond Bar Boulevard.

DUI Collision Causes Serious Injuries

Melonee Watson, 52, sustained serious injuries in a car accident, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in the Visalia Times Delta, the crash occurred the night of May 22, 2010 on Road 132 near Avenue 320, in Visalia, when two Chevy Silverado trucks collided head-on. Watson was airlifted to a regional hospital while the driver of the other pickup truck was transported to another hospital. That driver, only identified as a 25-year-old, is suspected of driving under the influence. Watson was driving north on Ben Maddox Way when the other pickup truck drifted into Watson's lane, California Highway Patrol officials said.

A man sustained major injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after his motorcycle was struck by a driver who made a left turn. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Hacienda and Valley boulevards in the City of Industry just before midnight on May 22, 2010.

Long Beach DUI Collision Injures Saxophonist Boney James

A car accident in Long Beach left famous jazz saxophonist Boney James with serious injuries the night of March 15, 2010. According to KTLA News, James, 48, was driving home on the 405 Freeway after playing in an Orange County jazz festival when his car was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver. He sustained several facial injuries that required stitches. An investigation is ongoing.

It is indeed fortunate that James did not suffer major injuries in this crash. I sincerely hope that he has a quick and full recovery.

Hit-and-Run Collision in Koreatown Kills Pedestrian

A 61-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after she was struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Koreatown, ABC News reports. The fatal pedestrian collision occurred the night of May 17, 2010, when the woman was crossing the street at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Manhattan Place. She died at the scene. The driver fled the scene of the crash. Those who saw the crash apparently told police that the suspect vehicle was a white sedan. Anyone with more information is asked to call LAPD at 213-382-9102.

Bicyclist Killed in Oakland Car Accident

Erik Fitzpatrick, 35, was killed in an Oakland car accident after a woman knocked him off his bicycle as she opened her car door, sending him into the path of an AC Transit bus. Fitzpatrick was hit and killed by the bus, according to a KCBS report. The fatal crash occurred on May 19, 2010 on MacArthur Boulevard near Patterson Avenue. Officials said Fitzpatrick had been aboard the same bus he was hit by, moments before the accident. He was transported to a local hospital where he died. It is not clear whether the 42-year-old Manteca woman who opened the car door has been charged. The bus driver has also been placed on paid administrative leave and subjected to a drug test per standard procedure. An investigation is ongoing.

Employers have and can be held responsible for their employees' "distracted driving" if the employee is driving and using a mobile device provided by the employer.

Hefty lawsuits have made companies foot more than the cell phone bill. Companies of all sizes can be "vicariously" responsible for the negligence of their employee who cause a car accident while talking on a cell phone, because the cell phone is paid for by the company.

Ventura Car Accident Proves Fatal for Driver

Alejandro Gonzalez, 22, was killed in a Ventura car accident after he struck a water truck whose driver, officials said, had lost control of the vehicle. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, 43-year-old Arturo Cervantes was driving the water truck north on Pleasant Valley Road, near Laguna Road, the morning of May 18, 2010, when he failed to notice traffic slowing ahead. Cervantes then, slammed on the brakes to avoid a collision causing the truck to skid and swerve over double yellow lines into opposing traffic lanes.

Eleven Children Injured in San Diego School Bus Accident

Eleven children were injured in a San Diego school bus accident after the bus they were in crashed into a light pole in East County. According to a news report in the Union-Tribune, 10 children were transported to hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. The students, who are fifth graders from a school in Yuma, Arizona, were on their way to a field trip at Balboa Park. The collision occurred the morning of May 18, 2010 in the main parking lot of the Golden Acorn Casino on the Campo Reservation where the bus had stopped so the students could stretch their legs. California Highway Patrol officials are trying to determine what caused this crash.

Los Angeles DUI Car Crash Injures One

Justin Branch, 23, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving after he caused a DUI collision the morning of May 16, 2010 in Glendora. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury collision occurred on Juanita Avenue at Bruning Avenue. Branch's passenger, a woman in her 20s, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Branch's car hit and snapped off a light pole, disrupting power to hundreds of local residents. Branch was also booked on suspicion of driving on a suspended license.

Man Killed in Sacramento DUI Collision

Robert Alverson, 49, was killed in a Sacramento car accident after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver, while trying to help at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99. According to a news report in The Sacramento Bee, the fatal pedestrian collision occurred on the highway near Mack Road, the morning of May 14, 2010, when Alverson attempted to cross the northbound lanes on foot.

The impact from the crash threw Alverson into the southbound lanes where he was also hit by a second vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who initially hit Alverson was believed to have been under the influence at the time. However California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the incident to determine who was at fault.

Alcohol-Related Crash in San Diego Causes Injuries

A car accident in San Diego involving a suspected drunk driver caused moderate injuries to three of his passengers. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the single-car crash involving an orange Dodge Neon occurred on the southbound 15 Freeway's transition to the 5 Freeway the morning of May 12, 2010.

The driver of the Dodge apparently lost control of his car and slammed into a concrete divider. The car was torn in half because of the impact. Three of the passengers were transported to a local hospital for injuries, which were not life-threatening. The driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Major Injuries in Murrieta Car Accident

A car accident in Murrieta that police say was caused by a driver who crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with another vehicle, seriously injured three people, the Southwest Riverside News Network reports. The injury collision occurred the afternoon of May 8, 2010, when a Toyota Sienna van bearing a male driver and his 8-year-old daughter, and traveling west on Clinton Keith Road, crossed over into opposing traffic lanes and struck a Mitsubishi Endeavor. All three people, the two occupants of the Toyota and the driver of the Mitsubishi sustained serious injuries in this crash.

I sympathize with the victims in this case. I hope no one has suffered any catastrophic injuries. I hope and pray that all victims recover quickly and completely.

One Injured in San Diego Car Accident

A moped rider sustained head injuries in a San Diego car accident the morning of May 12, 2010 in the Otay Mesa area. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the injury collision occurred on Otay Center Drive near Siempre Viva Road as a car hit the moped. The rider was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is not known. An investigation is ongoing.

Riverside Car Accident Proves Fatal for Bicyclist

Alan Earl Miller, 55, was killed in a Riverside car accident after his bicycle was struck by an SUV the afternoon of May 10, 2010. According to the Daily Pilot, Miller, a Costa Mesa resident, was riding his bicycle on Temescal Canyon Road in an unincorporated part of Riverside County when a 2003 Ford SUV driven by 42-year-old Scott J. Reis struck him from behind. California Highway Patrol officials say Miller was thrown off his bicycle by the impact of the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say Reis went off the roadway before he struck Miller. CHP officials have not arrested Reis pending an official investigation.

Ventura Car Accident Injures Six

Six people sustained injuries in a Ventura car accident after a big rig driver rear-ended an SUV triggering a chain-reaction crash that eventually involved three other vehicles. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, 36-year-old Mark Powell was stopped in heavy traffic on Highway 101 near the State Beaches exit, the morning of May 10, 2010. It was then that a large truck driven by 53-year-old Lonnie Pendleton hit Powell's SUV. The SUV then slammed into a car driven by 44-year-old Carlos Figueroa and a flatbed tow truck operated by 48-year-old Dean Gordon.

Powell sustained facial injuries and a broken tooth, California Highway Patrol officials said. His wife, 33-year-old Stacie Powell, complained of neck and back pain as did Figueroa and his passenger, 29-year-old Sandra Petatan. The Powell's two children also suffered minor injuries. Gordon and Pendleton were uninjured. The injured victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Fresno Car Accident Proves Fatal for Fremont Woman

A 50-year-old Fremont woman was killed in a Fresno car accident after another driver made an unsafe lane change and triggered a chain-reaction crash. According to a news report in The Fresno Bee, 22-year-old Mary Dagle was driving a 2004 Dodge north on the 5 Freeway near South Lassen Avenue in Huron, the evening of May 7, 2010, when she made an unsafe lane change right into the path of 25-year-old Victoria Alexander who was driving a 1997 BMW.

Alexander swerved to the right to avoid Dagle's Dodge, but lost control of her car and hit the back of Dagle's car. Dagle then veered left and crossed the center median into the path of an unidentified Fremont woman, who was going south on the freeway in a 2010 Nissan. The vehicles crashed causing the woman to be ejected from the Nissan. Dagle and Alexander sustained minor injuries, but the Fremont woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five Injured in San Diego Car Accident Involving School Bus

One adult and four people under 18 were involved in a San Diego car accident as a car driven by a teenager crashed into a school bus, in Valley Center. According to a 10news report, the collision occurred the morning of May 7, 2010, when a 2005 Nissan Altima, southbound on Lilac Road, crossed into the path of an oncoming school bus. California Highway Patrol officials said that the 16-year-old boy driving the car sustained injuries to his nose and also a sore arm. The 62-year-old driver of the school bus and three of her passengers sustained injuries including head and neck pain. Officials are investigating the cause of the accident. They do not believe alcohol or drugs were factor in this crash.

San Francisco Bay Area Motorcycle Accident Involves Hit-and-Run Driver

An on-duty police officer sustained injuries in a hit-and-run collision after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at an Oakland intersection. CBS News reports that the injury collision occurred the afternoon of May 5, 2010 at the intersection of B Street and 98th Avenue in Oakland. The Volkswagen Jetta that hit the Alameda County Sheriff's deputy fled the scene of the crash. However, the 34-year-old woman who fled was arrested shortly afterward. The officer was transported to an area hospital. Thankfully, he did not sustain any life-threatening injuries.

I'm glad to hear that the sheriff's deputy was not critically injured. Officials say that the crash was so intense that the Jetta's grill fell on to the roadway at the scene of the crash. I pray for the officer's quick and complete recovery.

Man Killed in Santa Clarita Car Collision

A 41-year-old man who was fatally injured in a car accidents in Saugus the evening of May 1, 2010 has been identified by local authorities as Jeffrey Laird. The Signal reports that the fatal car crash happened at the intersection of Plum Canyon Road and Santa Catarina Road. Police say Laird's Scion xB collided with a Dodge Durango driven by Garrett Brixon, 19, when Laird was attempting to make a left turn. Laird was pronounced dead at the scene while Brixon was taken to an area medical center with serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

DUI Car Collision Kills Man

Manuel Garcia, 49, sustained fatal injuries in a head-on car accident the evening of April 29, 2010 after his car was struck by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 154 near Circle V Ranch in Santa Barbara County. According to a news report in the Daily Sound, a 42-year-old man, who was driving a Nissan pickup truck, crashed head-on into Garcia's Toyota Scion. The driver of the Nissan, who has not yet been identified, has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Garcia's wife, who was a passenger in the Scion, also suffered major injuries.

Riverside Car Accident Blamed on Drunk Driver

A chain-reaction Riverside car accident, which sent four people to the hospital with injuries the afternoon of May 3, 2010, is being blamed on a drunk driver. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the injury collision occurred near the intersection of Big Morongo Canyon Road and Highway 62 in Morongo Valley. The suspected drunk driver, 42-year-old Michelle Webster, was driving a 2006 Jeep Commander south on Big Morongo Canyon.

San Diego Car Accident Kills Two

Rebecca Evene O'Mara, 21, and Joshua Creston Carr, 25, were killed in a San Diego car accident on the Interstate 8 in Mission Bay Park. According to a 10news report, the fatal head-on collision occurred the morning of May 1, 2010 on the Ocean Beach Freeway near the intersection of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. O'Mara and Carr, who were in a 2008 Honda Civic Coupe, were killed in the crash. Adrian Villaneuva Jr, 25, who was the driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Tundra, sustained a broken right wrist and collarbone, California Highway Patrol officials said. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Officials are in the process of determining whether Villaneuva was driving under the influence and also which driver was going the wrong way at the time.

Riverside Car Accident Leaves One Dead

Armando Garcia, 33, was killed in a Riverside car accident that involved five vehicles the night of May 1, 2010. According to The Press-Enterprise, the fatal car crash occurred at the intersection of Sanderson and Florida avenues in Hemet. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Another person who has not been identified was transported to a regional hospital with serious injuries. Several others were also transported by ambulance to local hospitals, but the extent of their injuries is not known.

Street Racing a Factor in San Bernardino Car Accident

Police say a car accident in San Bernardino the afternoon of April 23, 2010, which left three people injured, was caused by street racing. The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports that the crash occurred at the intersection of Redlands Boulevard and State Street. Police say a Saturn and a Mercedes-Benz were involved in a street race when the driver of the Saturn lost control and struck an SUV. A 66-year-old woman in the SUV was hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes left the scene, but was apprehended shortly afterward. Four different cameras in the downtown area recorded the street racing and the collision, officials said.

Two Injured in Orange County Car Accident

Two people sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident triggered by a suspected drunk driver on April 23, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred on the northbound 5 Freeway near Culver Drive and involved several vehicles including a Toyota Tundra, a Volvo and a big rig. Two occupants of the Toyota pickup were taken to a nearby hospital. It is not clear if they were seriously injured. The driver of a black Dodge Dakota was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
