Woman Critically Injured in Orange County Hit-And-Run Car Accident

A 61-year-old woman was severely injured in an Orange County car accident, which police report, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the pedestrian accident occurred the early morning of February 26, 2011 at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue in Anaheim. Police say the woman was crossing eastbound in the north crosswalk at the intersection when a northbound car hit her.

The vehicle, which is described as a mid 1990s to mid 2000s white Honda Accord or Nissan Altima or Maxima, left the scene. Eyewitnesses told police that the car stopped for a moment and then drove away leaving the critically injured woman on the street. The driver of the car is described as a man about 45 years old. Anyone with information about this hit-and-run car accident is asked to contact Anaheim police at 714-765-1900.

U.S. Marine Killed in San Diego Motorcycle Accident

Mark Paul Thompson, 27, was killed in a San Diego motorcycle accident after he lost control of his 2008 Honda motorcycle and crashed. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal injury accident occurred the afternoon of February 21, 2011 in the 16000 block of Highland Valley Road in Ramona. Thompson was riding his Honda motorcycle when he lost control and was thrown off his bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are investigating the cause of this fatal motorcycle accident.

Girl Injured in San Diego Car Accident

A 17-year-old girl sustained major injuries in a San Diego car accident after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the injury pedestrian accident occurred the night of February 18, 2011 on Kearny Villa Road near the Interstate 805. A sedan driven by a 26-year-old man struck the girl. The teen suffered a brain injury and an open leg fracture. An investigation is ongoing.

Based on this news report, it appears that the girl was struck while crossing the street. It is not clear if she was walking in a crosswalk at the time. Motorists are required to stop and yield right-of-way to pedestrians walking in marked or unmarked crosswalks under California law.

Police Officer Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Deputy Bradley Gravely was seriously injured in a Placer County car accident when his FJR 1000 Yamaha motorcycle was struck by another vehicle. According to The Auburn Journal, the motorcycle accident occurred on Bell Road in Auburn the morning of February 23, 2011. The Placer County deputy was traveling westbound on Bell when Hugh Morrill, 83, who was driving a Subaru, attempted a left turn from a parking lot, ahead of the officer. Gravely was thrown approximately 50 feet in the accident and suffered major injuries. A female passenger in the Subaru was hospitalized for chest pains following the deployment of the airbags. An investigation is ongoing.

Hit-and-Run Car Accident Leaves One Injured

At least one person was injured in a San Francisco area car accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a Bay City News Service report, the injury car accident occurred early morning on February 22, 2011 on Highway 101 near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City. California Highway Patrol officials say a full-sized Ford had crashed into a red car causing major damage. Both cars remained at the scene, but the driver of one of the cars fled the scene on foot. One person was transported to an area hospital with injuries. The extent of that victim's injuries is not known. An investigation is ongoing and officials are still looking for the hit-and-run driver.

Distracted Driver Possibly Caused Los Angeles Car Accident

Several people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which police report, involved a distracted driver who was talking on her cell phone, the afternoon of February 21, 2011. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the injury car accident occurred on Cameron Avenue near West Covina High School in West Covina. The woman first hit a church van occupied by four elderly women before driving over the center divider and striking a second vehicle head-on. All the women in the church van complained of pain. The female driver suffered a broken leg while the many victims of the accident complained of pain. An investigation is ongoing.

DUI Collision in Newport Beach Kills Bicyclist

A bicyclist was fatally injured in a Newport Beach car accident, which police say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal bicycle accident occurred the evening of February 21, 2011 near the intersection of San Joaquin Hills Road and Spyglass Road. Police say 22-year-old Danae Marie Miller of Newport Coast was driving under the influence when she struck the male bicyclist with her Volkswagen Jetta. Miller was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. An investigation is ongoing.

Police Looking for Hit-and-Run Truck Driver in San Bernardino

Michael Robert Hopkins, 25, was killed in a motorcycle versus truck accident after he hit the back of a big-rig, the night of February 13, 2011. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the 15 Freeway near Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga. California Highway Patrol officials say Hopkins was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle at 70 to 75 mph when he clipped a big rig. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the loaded flatbed big rig left the scene of the fatal accident. Officials say the rig lost its black left-rear mud flap during the impact. An investigation is ongoing.

Driver Arrested in Fatal DUI Collision in Modesto

Derek Rocha, 31, was killed in a Modesto car accident, which police say, involved a drunk driver. According to a news report in The Modesto Bee, the fatal car accident occurred on Vivian Road near Modesto the morning of February 13, 2011. Police say Antonio Vitor Lourenco of Turlock lost control of his vehicle while attempting a turn and struck a tree. His passenger, Rocha, was ejected from the vehicle and fatally injured. Lourenco has been charged with driving under the influence, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving without a license.

Orange County Car Accident Causes Injuries

At least two people were injured in an Orange County car accident involving multiple vehicles the night of February 14, 2011. The Orange County Register reports that the injury car accident occurred at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and North Euclid Street in Anaheim. One person had to be extricated from a vehicle and at least two people were hospitalized with unknown injuries. The number of vehicles involved and the cause of the accident are unknown at this time. An investigation is underway.

What Caused This Injury Accident?

It is unclear from this report how and why this accident occurred. The busy intersection where this accident occurred is monitored by traffic lights. Investigators will have to determine if one of the drivers violated California Vehicle Code Section 21453 by running a red light. It is possible in this case that one of the drivers was speeding, distracted or under the influence of alcohol. I trust officials are also looking into whether one of the drivers failed to yield right-of-way.

Motorcyclist Killed in San Bernardino Hit-and-Run Car Accident

Josue Ceja, 23, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the night of February 13, 2011 at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Citrus Avenue in Fontana. Ceja was riding a motorcycle west on Foothill when he collided with a vehicle that was making a left turn. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. No driver or vehicle description is available at this time.

Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Car Accident Kills Woman, Injures Three Children

Maria Pena, 28, was killed and her three children, ages 7, 5 and 3, sustained injuries in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to reports in the Los Angeles Daily News and CBS, Pena and her three children were crossing in the 12000 block of Mercer Street in Lakeview Terrace the afternoon of February 11, 2011 when they were struck by a pickup truck. Pena was critically injured and the three children sustained moderate injuries. All were transported to a local hospital. Pena died from her injuries.

Tragic Hit-and-Run Car Accident

The suspect vehicle, which drove away from the scene of this fatal car accident, is described as a gray pickup truck with damage to the tailgate area. Los Angeles Car Accident Proves Fatal for Pedestrian

Donnell Posey, 19, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. According to a news report in the Beverly Hills Courier, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred in the 8700 block of Figueroa Street the morning of February 4, 2011. The driver who struck Posey has not been cited or arrested pending the outcome of an official investigation.

San Diego Car Accident Caused by Elderly Driver with Suspended License

At least one person sustained injuries in a San Diego car accident after an elderly man driving the wrong way on the 5 Freeway struck several vehicles including a gas truck. According to a 10News report, the injury car accident occurred the morning of February 4, 2011, when 83-year-old Clarence Kinney drove his Ford F-150 pickup truck south in the northbound lanes at about 90 mph. Kinney, who officials say was driving on a suspended license, hit the freeway's center median before striking a Land Rover and a gas tanker truck. Kinney was injured as was a passenger in the Land Rover. No one appears to have sustained life-threatening injuries.

It is indeed fortunate that no one was fatally injured in this horrific car accident, which occurred at a high speed. I wish the injured passenger the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accidents Involving Senior Drivers

California now has almost 3 million drivers who are 65 years or older, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles. A recent study by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety finds fatality rates for drivers begin to climb after age 65. In 2005, about 11 percent of fatal car accidents in the United States had involved drivers 65 or older.

Car Accident in Ceres Kills 13-year-old Girl

Danielle Tarancon-Leon, 13, was killed and four other junior high school girls were injured in a pedestrian accident in Ceres after they were struck by a raised pickup truck whose driver, officials say, ran a stop sign. According to an Associated Press news report, the fatal truck accident occurred the morning of February 9, 2011. Witnesses told officials that 45-year-old Larry Dale Duke ran a stop sign at a street intersection and plowed into a group of 13- and 14-year-old girls who were walking to nearby Mae Hensley Junior High.

Witnesses also told officials that Duke was either on the phone or wearing earphones covering both ears shortly before the fatal car accident. Danielle died at the scene while the others' injuries ranged from minor to major. No charges have been filed against Duke pending an official investigation.

Los Angeles DUI Collision Causes Major Injuries

A male driver has been critically injured in a Los Angeles car accident involving a suspected drunk driver the night of February 8, 2011. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the major injury car accident occurred on San Gabriel Boulevard near Pearl Street in San Gabriel. A Range Rover, driven by 22-year-old Kai Tian, crashed head-on into a Honda after veering into oncoming traffic. A third car then rear-ended the Honda. The male driver of the Honda was critically injured and had to be extricated from the wreckage. No one else was injured. Tian was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving causing great bodily injury.

Girl Killed in San Francisco Area DUI Collision

Margaret Qaqish, 17, was killed in a San Francisco area car accident, which police say, involved an underage drunk driver. According to a report in the San Jose Mercury News, the fatal car accident occurred on Highway 101 near Sierra Point Parkway in Brisbane the morning of February 5, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials state 18-year-old Sean Quintero crashed a Toyota into the back of another vehicle on the highway.

Quintero was apparently unable to adjust to the slowing traffic ahead of him and avoid the collision because he was driving distracted. Qaqish, a passenger in the Toyota, was killed in the accident. Three other passengers suffered minor injuries. The occupants of the other car were not injured. Quintero faces multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and gross negligence.

Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Car Accident Injures Four

Two drivers and two passengers were injured in a Los Angeles car accident involving a hit-and-run driver the night of February 6, 2011. According to a news report in the Daily Breeze, the hit-and-run car accident occurred in the southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway in Redondo Beach. A 43-year-old man driving a 1999 GMC was travelling in the fast lane when a 2007 Dodge crashed into its left side and caused it to rollover. A 22-year-old man driving a 2007 Toyota in the neighboring lane crashed into the center divider when he attempted to avoid the accident. The driver of the Toyota, the driver of the GMC and a 43-year-old woman and 1-year-old passenger in the GMC were hospitalized for their injuries. Police are searching for the driver of the Dodge, who left the scene of the car accident.

Four People Injured in San Diego DUI Collision

Four people were hospitalized with injuries following a San Diego car accident, which involved a drunk driver and a police pursuit. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the DUI collision occurred the night of February 4, 2011 at Sixth Avenue and A Street in Hillcrest. Police attempted to stop a Honda Accord for speeding. But the driver did not stop. A police pursuit ensued. The Honda crashed into a Toyota Matrix at the street intersection. A passenger in the Honda and the driver of the Toyota sustained serious injuries while two passengers in the Toyota suffered minor injuries. Police arrested the driver of the Honda on suspicion of felony evading and driving under the influence.

Motorcycle Accident in Los Angeles Proves Fatal

Charles Agapinaan, 59, was killed in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident after his cycle was hit by a tractor-trailer the morning of January 21, 2011. According to a news report in the Whittier Daily News, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Bloomfield Avenue near Telegraph Road in Santa Fe Springs. Police say the motorcycle and large truck were traveling north in the second lane of Bloomfield Avenue. The tractor-trailer turned into a driveway. The motorcyclist could not stop in time and crashed into the tractor trailer.

Fatal Bakersfield Car Accident

Rashenna Natasha Powell, 22, was killed in a Bakersfield car accident after her vehicle collided head-on with another car the evening of January 28, 2011. According to a news report in The Bakersfield California, the fatal car accident occurred in the 1000 block of Mount Vernon Avenue near Kentucky Street in East Bakersfield.

Officials say Powell was driving a 2007 Toyota south on Mount Vernon when the car went over the center median after a lane change, traveled into opposing lanes of traffic and struck a northbound Ford driven by Ma G. Ramos Figueroa. Powell sustained fatal injuries. Figueroa sustained minor injuries. One of his passengers, 18-year-old Samantha Jimenez suffered moderate injuries while an 8-month-old infant, Valentina Banuelos, sustained relatively minor injuries.

Two Injured in Car Accident Near Orange County School

Two people were injured in a car accident in Orange County which officials say involved three vehicles. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury car accident occurred the morning of February 4, 2011 at the intersection of Newland Street and Trask Avenue in Westminster near Iva Meairs Elementary School. Officials say the car accident involved a Jeep Cherokee Laredo, a Ford Expedition and a Lexus ES 330. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

I sympathize with the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and full recovery. Please keep them in your prayers. It is indeed fortunate that no school children were hurt as the accident seems to have happened right before the start of the school day.

Two Injured in Los Angeles Bus Accident

A man in his 70s and a woman in her 30s were hospitalized following a Los Angeles car accident involving three cars and an MTA bus. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the injury accident occurred on Olympic Boulevard near Robertson Boulevard in West Los Angeles the morning of January 31, 2011. The man suffered serious injuries and the woman sustained non-life threatening injuries. The report does not specify how this accident took place or who caused it.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Los Angeles bus accident. I wish them a complete and speedy recovery from their injuries.

What Caused This Bus Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how this injury car accident occurred. Did the bus driver fail to look for oncoming cars before making an unsafe lane change or turn? Were any of the drivers distracted at the time of the accident? Were any of the motorists impaired, exceeding the speed limit or travelling too close behind the other vehicles? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what occurred here and why.

Investigation of Oregon Pedestrian Accident Death on Interstate 84 Underway

Oregon State Police are still investigating the death of a pedestrian who was trying to cross Interstate 84 in the Hood River, Oregon area.

Oregon State Police news releases report that at approximately 1:20am on January 20, a 2009 white truck pulling a semi-trailer of paper products was being driven east by Jeff D. Rainey, age 38 of Washougal, Washington. Rainey, who was driving for Gardner Trucking Inc. of Chino, California, was passing through a highway work zone near milepost 63 on Interstate 84, which reportedly was dark and unlit with just one lane of travel.

After climbing over a 3 foot high barrier in the highway work zone and trying to cross the traffic lane, Ramiro Najera-Cervantes, age 48 of Parkdale, Oregon was struck and killed by Rainey’s truck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene; Rainey was not injured.

Fatal Los Angeles Car Accident Could Involve Right-of-Way Issues

A 69-year-old resident of Rosamond was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the afternoon of January 31, 2011. According to a recent News Service report, the fatal injury accident occurred at the intersection of 60th Street West and Avenue F in Lancaster. Los Angeles Sheriff's officials say that 35-year-old Amy Padilla was heading west on Avenue F in a GMC Yukon SUV when she broadsided the passenger side of a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, which was northbound on 60th Street West. A passenger in the Pacifica died at the scene. That vehicle's driver was airlifted to an area hospital where she is recovering. An investigation is ongoing.

Elderly Man Killed in Los Angeles Multi-Car Accident

Sylvester Ray Martinez, 78, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident that involved seven vehicles. According to a news report in The Daily Breeze, the fatal car accident occurred on the 101 Freeway in the Cahuenga Pass in Los Angeles, on January 30, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say a 2003 Dodge Ram driven by a 45-year-old woman swerved in front of a Honda Civic driven by a 77-year-old woman in which Martinez was a passenger.

Three subsequent crashes occurred, as vehicles approaching the Dodge truck and Honda were unable to stop in time. Martinez was transported to a local hospital where he died. The driver of Civic suffered major injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram sustained minor injuries. It is not clear how many others were injured in this seven-car pileup. An investigation is ongoing.
