A 54-year-old man was severely injured in a San Diego car accident when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street. According to a 10News report, the pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Genesee Avenue and Mount Alifan Drive in Clairemont Mesa, the night of August 29, 2011. The victim suffered serious injuries including bleeding of the brain and a broken arm. The 19-year-old male driver of the Acura was not injured in the crash. It is not clear if the driver will be cited for the collision.

A police sergeant was injured in an Orange County car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a City News Service report, the DUI collision occurred at the intersection of Euclid Street and Trask Avenue, the night of August 28, 2011. The officer was in an unmarked police car, southbound on Euclid, when a sedan heading east on Trask hit the police vehicle. The collision caused the police car to end up on the center median. The police sergeant and the male driver of the other vehicle were taken to area hospitals for treatment of moderate injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the sedan is expected to be arrested on suspicion of DUI, officials say.

Four people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident involving a suspected drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on a freeway. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the serious injury accident occurred the morning of August 27, 2011 on the 5 Freeway in Pacoima. California Highway Patrol officials say a black Mini Cooper was traveling the wrong way when it struck a white truck. Several vehicles were involved. Three people have been listed in critical condition and one person is in fair condition. Officials say the wrong-way driver suffered minor injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A woman and a baby were injured in a Ventura car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The Ventura County Star, the hit-and-run car accident occurred on Spring Road at Los Angeles Avenue in Moorpark, the night of August 24, 2011. The woman and baby were occupants of a vehicle that was rear-ended by a car driven by 34-year-old Francisco Xavier Martinez-Amezcua. The extent of the victims' injuries is not clear at this point. Martinez-Amezcua left the scene of the crash and was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run.

A 50-year-old male bicyclist was killed in a Los Angeles car accident involving a hit-and-run driver, the night of August 23, 2011. According to a City News Service report, the fatal bicycle accident occurred at the intersection of Avalon Boulevard and Redondo Beach Boulevard in Compton. The man was riding his bicycle north on Avalon and had entered the intersection when he was struck by the BMW, which was westbound on Redondo Beach Boulevard. He was thrown from his bicycle and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Officials are trying to find the driver responsible for this fatal hit-and-run crash.

Maria Carachure, 64, sustained life-threatening injuries in a Riverside car accident after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street, the night of August 20, 2011. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, Carachure was walking in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of California Avenue and Heidi Road, when she was struck by a Mitsubishi Montero driven by 59-year-old Celia Scott. Carachure was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Officials say Scott failed to see the pedestrian as she crossed the street. They do not believe alcohol was a factor. An investigation is ongoing.

A woman was fatally injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials report, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in the Daily Breeze, the pedestrian accident occurred on Rosecrans Avenue, between Budlong and Normandie avenues, in Gardena, the night of August 19, 2011. The woman was crossing the street when a gray, four-door 2000-2001 Honda Civic or Accord struck her. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Witnesses say that the hit-and-run driver was a Latino male between 25 and 30 years old with short or shaved hair and a medium to heavy build. Officials also say that there were two passengers in the car. Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has information about the suspect or vehicle is asked call Gardena police at 310-217-6135.

A female bicyclist was injured in an Irvine car accident after she was struck by a vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred the morning of August 19, 2011 on the Alton Parkway off-ramp to the 5 Freeway. California Highway Patrol officials say the bicyclist crossed the off-ramp on a green light as the driver of a Mercedes Benz attempted a right-hand turn while exiting the freeway. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with apparently non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are investigating the cause of this bicycle accident.

Pejman Sagart, 44, and his passenger were injured in a San Diego car accident involving a suspected drunk driver. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the injury crash occurred on westbound Interstate 8, near North Johnson Avenue, in El Cajon, the morning of August 15, 2011. Police say Sagart was driving a Mustang when a GMC flatbed truck cut him off. The Mustang rear-ended the truck and scaffolding that was on the truck crashed through the Mustang’s windshield. Sagart and his passenger both sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup, 35-year-old Juan Talavera, 35, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Jon Boehning, 47, was killed in a Riverside car accident, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of August 14, 2011 at the intersection of Clinton Keith Road and Palomar Street in Wildomar. Boehning was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after the crash. The driver of the pickup truck that struck Boehning was identified as 30-year-old Jose Lujan of Vista. Officials say he has been charged with drunk driving and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Christine Stanley, 60, and a San Diego Sheriff's deputy identified as Dustin Lopez, were injured in a San Diego car accident the morning of August 12, 2011. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of La Costa Avenue and Rancho Santa Fe Road in Carlsbad. Witnesses told police that Lopez, who was traveling south on Rancho Santa Fe, ran a red light and crashed into a Mercedes Benz sedan and a Honda van. Stanley, an occupant of the Mercedes, was hospitalized for head injuries and pain, while Lopez sustained head injuries. No one in the van was injured. An investigation is ongoing.

Abdul Matin Formoli, 41, and Brian Griffin Lynn, 62, were both killed in a San Bernardino car accident that involved a head-on collision. According to a news report in The San Bernardino County Sun, the fatal car accident occurred the afternoon of August 11, 2011 on Highway 247, near Barstow. Officials say the northbound 2004 Toyota driven by Formoli drifted into the southbound traffic lane, striking a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Lynn. Formoli died at the scene. Lynn was transported to an area hospital where he died. Lynn's wife, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, was also injured, but her condition is not known.

Seven people were injured, one critically, in a Temecula car accident that involved a Riverside Transit agency bus and several other vehicles. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the major injury accident occurred on the Interstate 15 at Winchester Road, the morning of August 10, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say, the transit bus carrying five passengers slammed into the back of a box truck that was stopped at the end of a line of cars waiting to exit the freeway. The bus driver did not notice the backed up vehicles. The bus driver's leg was almost severed in the crash and his injuries are potentially life-threatening. Six others were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Michael Ruiz, 23, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident when his vehicle lost control and crashed into the center median. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred on the 60 Freeway in Monterey Park, early morning on August 8, 2011. Ruiz's 1991 Acura crashed into an on-ramp divider before veering and striking a center median. A second vehicle then hit the driver's side of the Acura. An investigation is ongoing.

According to a City News Service report, the hit-and-run accident occurred in a parking lot near 11th and Hill streets in Los Angeles, the early morning of August 7, 2011. The three men were walking in the parking lot when a gray Audi A-4 struck them. The victims of this pedestrian accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Audi left the scene without stopping to help the injured victims. Officials are still looking for that hit-and-run driver and vehicle.

Mary Therese Ehrenfeld, 79, was killed in a Huntington Beach car accident after her car was struck by another vehicle, the afternoon of August 6, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car crash occurred on Adams Avenue, near Bushard Street, in Huntington Beach. The incident involved a Buick Regal sedan, driven by Ehrenfeld, and a Jeep Cherokee, driven by Cynthia Lynn Kelber, 60, colliding at a high speed. Ehrenfeld was killed in the crash, while Kelber sustained minor injuries.

Shynise J. Brown, 18, was seriously injured in a Riverside car accident, which officials say, involved two erratic drivers who left the scene of the crash. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the hit-and-run car accident occurred along Highway 91, near Madison Street, in Riverside County, the early morning of July 31, 2011.

Brown was travelling in her 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo when two vehicles, a dark 2003 Chevrolet Malibu and a dark SUV, were swerving in and out of their lanes of traffic. The Malibu swerved to the right and forced Brown's car to spin out of control and crash into a metal guardrail. Brown suffered severe injuries and the two drivers responsible for the crash continued on and did not stop to offer assistance. Officials are still looking for these drivers.

Officials have arrested a 41-year-old woman recently in connection with an Orange County car accident that left 4-year-old Ava O'Connor severely injured. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury collision occurred June 20, 2011 on the 405 Freeway, near Laguna Canyon Road, in Irvine. Annete Argo, 40, was driving her son Gaven Argo, 9, and Ava from Pretend City, a play area in Irvine, when the collision occurred. California Highway Patrol officials say Argo's vehicle went off the roadway after it was struck by a Yukon Denali.

Tyler Rosen, 18, was injured in a Riverside car accident when a car struck his bicycle, the night of July 30, 2011. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the injury bicycle accident occurred on Hamner Avenue, near Citrus, in Norco. The teen bicyclist sustained critical injuries in the crash. It is not clear what caused the oncoming car to strike to bicyclist or if the driver will be cited for the collision. The serious injury accident remains under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tyler Rosen and his family following this terrible bicycle accident. Apparently, Rosen was hit and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in January. That accident left him paralyzed. This is the second time he has been critically injured in seven months. Heart-rending! I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Yueany Qisquina, 27, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by an elderly driver who apparently lost control of his vehicle. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 8th Street in Koreatown, the morning of July 31, 2011. A 73-year-old woman driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder veered into the northbound lanes of traffic and went off the roadway. Qisquina was walking on the sidewalk when the car hit him.

The critically injured pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where he later died. Officials say drugs or alcohol were not factors in this fatal crash. The elderly driver has not been arrested and no charges have been filed pending an official investigation.
