CicLAvia Promotes Bicycle Fitness
One of the most efficient ways to avoid personal injury and bicycle accidents is being in shape, and one of the most fun ways to do that is taking a ride on your bicycle. Los Angeles is doing a terrific job promoting bicycle usage in the city and is taking a "European" approach to bicycles as primary vehicles.
With so many cars on the road and traffic congestion a constant problem, using bicycles in Los Angeles could alleviate a ton of accidents and would ultimately help the environment and the air we breathe.
This Sunday, 10 miles of L.A. streets will be closed to traffic and open to cyclists, walkers, skateboarders and people in wheelchairs for a day of exhaust-free fun. The event is called CicLAvia.
This is the third CicLAvia in Los Angeles, named after the similar event that began 30 years ago in Columbia called Ciclovías, and they have been more and more successful each time. The idea is to get a whole community walking, biking, and even skating around town to promote healthiness and well being.
CicLAvia makes the streets safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike. There are activities along the route. Shop owners and restaurants are encouraged to open their doors to people along the CicLAvia.
Please join us for a day-long bicycle and outdoor party this Sunday and for many more events like this in future.
