Dennis Wayne Williams, 57, was fatally injured in a San Diego car accident, which officials say involved three vehicles. According to a U-T San Diego news report, the motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of March 4, 2012 on Highland Valley Road in Ramona. Williams was riding northbound. The driver of a Toyota Prius had stopped and was waiting for the motorcyclist to pass to make a left turn. The driver of a southbound Honda Civic did not see the Prius and tried to avoid a collision by swerving to the left. The Civic struck the rear of the Prius and entered the north lane colliding with the motorcycle. Williams was thrown onto the roadway and died at a nearby fire station before he could be transported to a hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Dennis Wayne Williams for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
San Diego Motorcycle Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 15 fatalities and 357 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Also, countywide, motorcycle accidents claimed 39 lives and injured 989 people, during the same year.
Causes and Compensation Issues
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Honda Civic failed to see the Prius and caused the collision. I trust officials are looking into whether the driver of the Honda was driving at an excessive rate of speed or if he or she was distracted or inattentive at the time. If that was the case, then, the motorist can be held liable for Williams’ wrongful death.
In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased accident victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages. Victims’ families would be well advised to seek the counsel of an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to motorcycle accident victims or their families.
