A woman suffered severe injuries in a Huntington Beach auto accident, which officials say involved a suspected DUI driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the crash occurred the afternoon of June 25, 2012 at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Algonquin Street. Fidel Barrera, 22, the driver of a Toyota 4Runner, was traveling east on Warner when he lost control of the SUV. The vehicle rolled over several times. The female passenger was trapped inside the 4Runner and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Barrera was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence as well as driving on a suspended license. Toxicology tests are pending. The crash is under investigation and police are asking witnesses to call 714-536-5670.

Two women suffered major injuries in a Huntington Beach traffic accident the morning of June 27, 2012. According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Yorktown Avenue. Police say a 43-year-old female driver of a Toyota Sequoia collided with a 2001 Saturn sedan. Both vehicles were traveling east on Yorktown Avenue. Two women, ages 79 and 47, were in the Saturn and were transported to UCI Medical Center with critical injuries. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact investigators at 714-536-5670.

A chain reaction crash in Los Angeles County resulted in injuries to 17 people, the morning of June 26, 2012. According to a KABC news article, the injury collision occurred on the 14 Freeway at Escondido Canyon Road. California Highway Patrol officials say the chain-reaction collision involving 19 vehicles was triggered by an 18-wheeler that rear-ended other cars that were stopped as the Highway Patrol was removing some debris from the roadway.

The big-rig, driven by 25-year-old Darwin Martinez, struck a car and set off a multiple collision. CHP officials say Martinez was traveling south in the number three lane "at an unsafe speed for conditions and failed to avoid stopped traffic." Two victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition, while most of the other injuries were minor. The investigation is ongoing.

Francisco Gutierrez, 19, of Los Angeles was fatally injured in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a City News Service report, the DUI crash occurred early morning on June 25, 2012 in the southbound lanes of the 710 Freeway at Sixth Street. An 18-year-old woman was driving an Acura Integra in the number one lane. Gutierrez was a passenger. The vehicle struck the east curb below the Sixth Street overpass and veered across traffic lanes. The passenger side of the Acura struck a freeway sign and palm tree before coming to a stop. Gutierrez died from his injuries. The female driver was booked on suspicion of felony impaired driving and vehicular manslaughter.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2009, 5,474 people were killed in crashes involving a driver distraction, and an estimated 448,000 were injured. These types of auto accidents could be prevented by simply waiting to text till you get home, or taking a sip of your coffee at a red light instead of when your car is in motion. In other reports, statistics showed that in June 2011, more than 196 billion text messages were sent or received in the US, up nearly 50% from June 2009. These statistics are scary, but true.

Roger Michael Lippman, 63, was killed in a Huntington Beach car accident involving a suspected drunk driver who left the scene of the crash. According to The Orange County Register, the fatal DUI collision occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint Street and Warner Avenue, the morning of June 22, 2012. Officials say Joel Alexander Murphy, 27, was under the influence when he crashed his silver Hyundai into Lippman and drove away. Lippman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Murphy was tracked down after being involved in another collision near Westminster Boulevard and Kitts Highway. He now faces three felony charges including hit-and-run, driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who they say was involved in a Baldwin Park car accident that left a pedestrian severely injured. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Ramona Boulevard and Stewart Avenue, the night of June 20, 2012. Police say the pedestrian, a 57-year-old Baldwin Park man was crossing the street when he was hit by a westbound vehicle, described as a dark-colored Honda sedan. The driver did not stop. The Honda was last seen going west. The pedestrian suffered significant head injuries and was transported to an area hospital. A 19-year-old Pacoima woman was fatally injured in a LA County car accident after the vehicle in which she was a passenger crossed into opposing lanes of traffic and crashed into a pickup truck. According to a City News Service report, the car crash occurred in the 9900 block of Glenoaks Boulevard in Sun Valley, the morning of June 20, 2012. Officials say Jesus Felix, 18, was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Passat south on Glenoaks Boulevard near Truesdale Street, when he lost control and entered into oncoming traffic.

The Passat hit a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by 53-year-old Gagik Harutyunyun of Burbank. The female passenger in the Passat died and Harutyunyun suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are still investigating the incident. Felix has been arrested on suspicion felony vehicular manslaughter.

A woman was severely injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which involved several vehicles. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the major injury crash occurred at Victory Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue in Valley Glen, the morning of June 19, 2012. Officials say a man with a history of seizures was driving eastbound on Victory Boulevard when he veered into oncoming traffic.

The man was apparently driving against the flow of traffic when he crashed into an oncoming vehicle that was westbound. Both vehicles spun out and crashed into several stopped cars on Whitsett. The at-fault motorist showed no sign of seizures, but complained of pain. A female driver suffered a broken leg and was critically injured. Three motorists were transported to an area hospital. A total of six cars were involved in the pileup.

A man was killed in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say involved two hit-and-run drivers. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the fatal collisions occurred early morning on June 17, 2012 in South Los Angeles. The man was walking in a marked crosswalk on 42nd Street when a vehicle traveling north on Central Avenue struck him. The vehicle kept going as the man landed in the street. Passersby tried to help the victim when a second vehicle, described as a large, green SUV, which was also heading north on Central, ran over the victim and dragged him several hundred feet. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are looking for both the vehicles and drivers. No description is available for the first vehicle.

Two women, identified as Marlene Alatorre, 19, and Claudia Fernandez, 38, were killed in a Los Angeles car accident after a suspected drunk driver who was being pursued by California Highway Patrol officials struck them. According to an NBC news report, the fatal collision occurred in a parking lot near Cesar Chavez Avenue in Boyle Heights, the night of June 16, 2012. Officials say the suspect, a woman who is in her thirties, was driving under the influence while fleeing in a grey Toyota Camry.

The high speed chase, which started near the Los Angeles Convention Center on the 10 Freeway, continued onto the 5 Freeway and ended tragically when the suspect ran a red light and crashed into a crowded taco truck. Alatorre and Fernandez were standing outside the truck at the time of the collision. Both women died from their injuries. The motorist sustained minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Five children were injured in a Los Angeles car accident after a vehicle collided with their school bus. According to a KTLA news report, the bus accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and 157th Street in Gardena, the afternoon of June 14, 2012. Officials say a Mitsubishi Eclipse was making a right onto 157th Street when it collided with the school bus sending the bus crashing into the wall of a building on South Main Street. Police say that female driver of the Eclipse had alcohol on her breath and appeared to be intoxicated. She is expected to be booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. None of the injuries is believed to be life threatening.

Two women, identified as Mandalena Maytorena, 32, of Riverside, and Cynthia Kay Barona, 38, were killed in a Riverside County car accident after the red Cadillac CTS in which they were traveling slammed into the back of a box truck. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the crash occurred early morning on June 13, 2012 on the Interstate 15 near Hidden Valley Road in Norco. California Highway Patrol officials said the Cadillac slammed into the back of the truck, which was traveling in the slow lane at 60 mph. On impact, the car became pinned under the truck causing the truck to spin out of control. Both vehicles rolled over. Both Maytorena and Barona died at the scene. The driver of the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Officials are still looking into what caused this tragic accident.

Yolanda Archuleta, 51, was killed in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a City News Service report, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the night of June 9, 2012 at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Linden Avenue. Officers found Archuleta lying on the roadway. She was transported to a hospital where she died from her injuries. A black, four-door Honda was westbound on Anaheim Street when it struck the victim who was attempting to cross Anaheim and get to the west side of Linden Avenue.

The car stopped and both the driver and passenger got out and walked over to the injured victim before getting back in the vehicle and driving away, officials said. The suspect vehicle had moderate to major front-end damage and a broken headlight. The driver is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s wearing a white shirt. The passenger is described as a Hispanic woman with shoulder-length hair. Anyone with information about this hit-and-run car accident is asked to contact Long Beach police at 562-570-7355.

Jonathan Cuevas, 20, was fatally injured in a Riverside car accident, which officials say involved a suspected drunk driver. According to The Press-Enterprise, the incident occurred the morning of June 9, 2012. Cuevas was a passenger in a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo being driven by an 18-year-old and traveling east on Arlington Avenue near Fairhaven Drive. The vehicle rounded a curve at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The Isuzu SUV rolled numerous times. Cuevas was ejected from the vehicle. Officials suspect that he was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and was determined to have been under the influence at the time.

A 32-year-old Holtville woman was severely injured in a car accident after colliding with a car driven by a U.S. Border Patrol agent at an Imperial County street intersection. According to a news report in U-T San Diego, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Heber Road and Bowker Road, the morning of June 5, 2012. Officials say the Border Patrol agent was northbound on Bowker Road when he struck the woman's car sending it careening into a nearby canal. The woman was treated at an El Centro hospital for a fractured neck.

Maximillion Infinity Petrakos, 13, was killed and his mother and brother were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a CBS news report, the fatal car accident occurred on the westbound 60 Freeway just east of Seventh Avenue in Hacienda Heights early morning on June 3, 2012. Maximillion was apparently standing with his 41-year-old woman next to a disabled vehicle on the freeway's shoulder, when the suspect's vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder before hitting the victims and the disabled car.

A 10-year-old boy who was sitting in the rear seat of the disabled vehicle suffered moderate injuries. The mother suffered major injuries. Tina Silva, 28, the driver of the 2012 Honda Civic that struck the victims, initially left the scene, but was contacted by law enforcement and arrested. She is being held without bail. Officials say she was under the influence at the time of the fatal collision.
