Christine Gilbert, 29, of Long Beach, was fatally injured in an Orange County car accident after the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed with another car and rolled over. According to The Orange County Register, the collision occurred on the westbound 91 Freeway near Walker Street, early morning on September 15, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say Gilbert was riding in a 2010 Toyota Corolla with two other people when it hit a 1999 Honda Accord. The Toyota veered off the highway and rolled over several times. Gilbert sustained fatal injuries after she was ejected from the vehicle. The Toyota’s driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.

James Chappell, 29, was killed in a Los Angeles County car accident after he struck a van, whose driver cut him off, officials said. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the morning of September 13, 2012 on the westbound 210 Freeway near Fruit Street.

California Highway Patrol officials say Chappell was riding his 2002 Honda CBR600 motorcycle in the carpool lane, when a 58-year-old Claremont man driving a 2010 Ford E-350 van moved into the carpool lane, crossing the double yellow line, directly into the path of the motorcyclist. Chappell was unable to avoid hitting the back of the van. In spite of wearing a helmet, Chappell suffered sever head trauma and died from his injuries. No arrested or citations have been reported yet. The investigation is ongoing.

Sergio Becerra, 30, of Bell, was killed in a truck accident in Ontario after a tractor-trailer struck him. According to The San Bernardino County Sun, the fatal collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Euclid Avenue, the afternoon of September 10, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say they found evidence at the scene suggesting that Becerra was on the shoulder of the freeway changing a tire when the semi hit him. Becerra died at the scene. No arrests or citations have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.

At least six people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say involved several vehicles. According to a KABC news report, the injury crash occurred on the eastbound 101 Freeway just past Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills, the morning of September 5, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials said that as many as 14 people were involved, but only six were transported to a local hospital. None of the injuries is life threatening. The investigation is ongoing.

At least two people were injured in a Pasadena car accident, which officials say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the DUI crash occurred the night of August 20, 2012 on the 134 Freeway at South San Rafael Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials say 31-year-old John Reynoso was driving a Ford sedan and crashed into the back of a Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Toyota lost control, hit the center divider and broke the wall. The Cruiser’s driver, a 55-year-old man and his female passenger were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Reynoso was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The investigation is ongoing.

A Newport Beach woman has been arrested in connection with causing a car accident in Riverside, which officials say involved alcohol, speeding, texting and making an unsafe lane change. According to The Press-Enterprise, the injury collision occurred on Highway 91 near Magnolia Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials say 27-year-old Teresa Lynn Hyde was speeding westbound in her Lexus IS300 on August 19, 2012, when she sideswiped a 1997 Ford Expedition SUV as she changed lanes.

Hyde’s vehicle crashed and flipped over as she tried to flee the scene. Both women in the Expedition were injured. Officers say Hyde was texting while driving. She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. She apparently has at least a dozen traffic violations on her record in Orange County including a 2009 DUI conviction.

Francisco Gutierrez, 19, of Los Angeles was fatally injured in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a City News Service report, the DUI crash occurred early morning on June 25, 2012 in the southbound lanes of the 710 Freeway at Sixth Street. An 18-year-old woman was driving an Acura Integra in the number one lane. Gutierrez was a passenger. The vehicle struck the east curb below the Sixth Street overpass and veered across traffic lanes. The passenger side of the Acura struck a freeway sign and palm tree before coming to a stop. Gutierrez died from his injuries. The female driver was booked on suspicion of felony impaired driving and vehicular manslaughter.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family members and friends of Francisco Gutierrez, who are mourning his terrible loss. I offer my deepest condolences to them.

Two women, identified as Mandalena Maytorena, 32, of Riverside, and Cynthia Kay Barona, 38, were killed in a Riverside County car accident after the red Cadillac CTS in which they were traveling slammed into the back of a box truck. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the crash occurred early morning on June 13, 2012 on the Interstate 15 near Hidden Valley Road in Norco. California Highway Patrol officials said the Cadillac slammed into the back of the truck, which was traveling in the slow lane at 60 mph. On impact, the car became pinned under the truck causing the truck to spin out of control. Both vehicles rolled over. Both Maytorena and Barona died at the scene. The driver of the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Officials are still looking into what caused this tragic accident.

Maximillion Infinity Petrakos, 13, was killed and his mother and brother were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a CBS news report, the fatal car accident occurred on the westbound 60 Freeway just east of Seventh Avenue in Hacienda Heights early morning on June 3, 2012. Maximillion was apparently standing with his 41-year-old woman next to a disabled vehicle on the freeway’s shoulder, when the suspect’s vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder before hitting the victims and the disabled car.

A 10-year-old boy who was sitting in the rear seat of the disabled vehicle suffered moderate injuries. The mother suffered major injuries. Tina Silva, 28, the driver of the 2012 Honda Civic that struck the victims, initially left the scene, but was contacted by law enforcement and arrested. She is being held without bail. Officials say she was under the influence at the time of the fatal collision.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and many friends of Maximillion Infinity Petrakos who was fatally injured in this DUI collision. A female driver suffered injuries in an Irvine car accident after another vehicle struck her car. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Bake Parkway, the morning of May 24, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say a Honda was trying to get around another vehicle and collided with the victim’s Toyota Prius. The Prius, which was in the number one lane, ended up going over the right side and into a ditch. The driver of the Prius was transported to an area hospital. The nature and extent of her injuries is not known.
