DUI Collision in Tulare County Proves Fatal

Luis Camacho, 18, was killed in a car accident involving a suspected drunk driver, the evening of August 23, 2010. According to a news report in The Porterville Recorder, the crash occurred at the intersection of Avenue 228 and Road 36, when 18-year-old Victor Anguiano, the driver of a Chevy Astro van, sped past a stop sign and broadsided a 2007 Freightliner truck. Anguiano suffered minor injuries, but his passenger, Camacho, was killed in the collision. The driver of the Freightliner, 37-year-old Valentin Ramirez, and his passenger, 37-year-old Carlos Reyeslara, escaped without any injuries. Anguiano was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Officials are saying that a DUI collision may have triggered a series of crashes, which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and injured 10 others on August 3, 2010. According to KCRA news report, the fatal crash occurred on the Interstate 505, near Putah Creek Road, in Winters.

Toddler Killed in Fresno DUI Collision

Angel Lopez, 4, was killed in a car accident in Fresno the night of July 23, 2010, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Fresno Bee, 32-year-old Rodolfo Rangle, driving a 1994 Toyota east on Avenue 440, ran a stop sign at Road 120 and collided with a 2001 Dodge driven by 55-year-old Evelyn Hernandez. California Highway Patrol officials arrested Rangle on suspicion of drunk driving.

DUI Collision Kills Woman in Walnut Creek

Kathleen Moorhead, 57, was killed in a San Francisco car accident after she was struck by a suspected drunk driver the evening of July 17, 2010. According to a Bay City News report, the fatal crash occurred on Treat Boulevard near Bancroft Road in Walnut Creek. Police say the driver of a pickup truck, who was traveling east on Treat Boulevard, lost control of the vehicle and crossed a median into the westbound lanes.

Two Injured in DUI Collision

A car accident in Chico caused injuries to two people the night of July 8, 2010. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 32, when Jacob Michael Peterson, 23, made a U-turn in front of a 2002 Chevy pickup truck. One person was booked on suspicion of DUI.

DUI Hit-and-Run Collision Causes Major Injuries

Hemet Police Officer Doug Barrett, 30, sustained major injuries in a hit-and-run collision, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the driver of a Honda Accord broadsided the police car the night of July 13, 2010, at the intersection of State Street and Acacia Avenue in Hemet. Witnesses told police that the driver of the Honda ran a red light. Both cars crashed into a third car that was waiting at a red light at the intersection.

DUI Collision in Tulare County Proves Fatal

Rocio Martinez Lopez, 36, was killed in a car accident in Tulare County after her vehicle was hit by a suspected drunk driver, the Fresno Bee reports. California Highway Patrol officials say the fatal crash occurred the night of July 1, 2010, when Lopez was driving her 2007 Honda Civic east on Highway 190. At the time, a driver of a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup, who was southbound on Road 152, ran a stop sign and struck Lopez's Honda, officials said. The driver of the pickup was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Both he and his 29-year-old passenger, Jose Corrales-Delgado, were transported to an area hospital with major injuries.

San Diego DUI Collision Causes Injuries

Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in connection with a San Diego car accident that involved four vehicles. According to a news report in the North County Times, the injury collision occurred on the 5 Freeway in Encinitas, near Leucadia Boulevard. California Highway Patrol officials say Todd C. Winter was driving a Ford Focus when he crashed into a big-rig the morning of July 2, 2010. Winter then abandoned his car and his passenger 30-year-old Sean Elder, who was in the front seat of the Ford, which remained in oncoming traffic lanes. The driver of the big-rig also fled the scene.

San Francisco Area DUI Collision Causes Injuries

A woman sustained injuries in a DUI collision in the Penngrove area of Petaluma the evening of June 27, 2010. According to a news report in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, the collision occurred at the intersection of Petaluma Hill Road and Valley House Drive between a Toyota 4Runner SUV and a Toyota Camry. The female driver of the Camry was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. She is expected to survive. The male driver of the 4Runner was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Three passengers in the 4Runner were uninjured.

DUI Collision in Joshua Tree Causes Injuries

Bruce Grund, 58, Christina Grund and Amy Bowser sustained injuries in a DUI collision after a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and collided with their car the morning of June 13, 2010, officials said. According to a news report in the Hi Desert Star, 41-year-old Sheila Paderes drove a 2005 Dodge Neon right through the intersection of Park Boulevard and Twentynine Palms Highway, and directly into the path of a 2003 Chevy Silverado driven by Bruce Grund. He, Christina Grund and Bowser were all transported to a local hospital with injuries. Paderes was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving without auto insurance and driving with a suspended license. Paderes apparently pleaded guilty to two charges of DUI in 2008.

Lake County DUI Collision Causes Major Injuries

A woman who was seriously injured in a DUI collision in Lake County has been identified as 63-year-old Patricia McFarland. The Record-Bee reports that the car accident occurred on June 5, 2010 at the intersection of Soda Bay and Mission Rancheria roads, when 40-year-old Thomas Mello, who was driving a 1990 Ford Explorer, failed to yield right-of-way and made a left turn in front of a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by McFarland. Mello then left the scene. He was later apprehended and charged with driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run and being under the influence of a controlled substance. McFarland sustained major injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

I hope McFarland has not suffered any life-threatening injuries in this crash. I pray that she recover quickly and completely.

Four Injured in Lake County DUI Collision

Four people were injured in a California car accident in Lake County, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to the Record-Bee, the injury crash occurred the morning of June 2, 2010 on Highway 53, near Anderson Ranch Parkway, when 46-year-old Stephen Phipps who was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck crossed over the center turn lane and entered opposing lanes of traffic. The Ford truck moved directly in front of a 2000 Oldsmobile van driven by 43-year-old Luisa Enriquez. Both cars crashed head-on.

San Diego DUI Collision Seriously Injures Motorcyclist

A DUI collision in San Diego caused serious injuries to a motorcyclist the afternoon of May 29, 2010. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the collision between a car and the motorcycle occurred at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Main Street in Chula Vista, when the driver ran a red light, struck the motorcyclist and then fled the scene of the crash.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered several fractures and was taken to a local medical center for treatment. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. The female driver was later arrested and charged with DUI causing injury, drug possession and felony hit-and-run.

DUI Collision in Tulare Kills Two

Two men were killed in a DUI collision after a car and a large hay baler truck collided at a Tulare intersection. According to a news report in the Fresno Bee, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Avenue 232 and Road 36 the evening of May 26, 2010. California Highway Patrol officials said Ullses Bello Gomez, 27, was driving a Honda west on Avenue 232 when he tried to make a left turn onto Road 36. He ended up crashing into a truck traveling east on Avenue 232. The truck was driven by 55-year-old Robert Alvarado Jr. Two male passengers in Gomez's car died at the scene. Gomez was transported to a regional hospital with major injuries, but was later charged with DUI.

According to a Bay City News report, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of South McDowell Boulevard and Baywood Drive in Petaluma the afternoon of May 27, 2010.

DUI Collision Causes Serious Injuries

Melonee Watson, 52, sustained serious injuries in a car accident, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in the Visalia Times Delta, the crash occurred the night of May 22, 2010 on Road 132 near Avenue 320, in Visalia, when two Chevy Silverado trucks collided head-on. Watson was airlifted to a regional hospital while the driver of the other pickup truck was transported to another hospital. That driver, only identified as a 25-year-old, is suspected of driving under the influence. Watson was driving north on Ben Maddox Way when the other pickup truck drifted into Watson's lane, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Los Angeles DUI Car Crash Injures One

Justin Branch, 23, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving after he caused a DUI collision the morning of May 16, 2010 in Glendora. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury collision occurred on Juanita Avenue at Bruning Avenue. Branch's passenger, a woman in her 20s, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Branch's car hit and snapped off a light pole, disrupting power to hundreds of local residents. Branch was also booked on suspicion of driving on a suspended license.

Man Killed in Sacramento DUI Collision

Robert Alverson, 49, was killed in a Sacramento car accident after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver, while trying to help at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99. According to a news report in The Sacramento Bee, the fatal pedestrian collision occurred on the highway near Mack Road, the morning of May 14, 2010, when Alverson attempted to cross the northbound lanes on foot.

The impact from the crash threw Alverson into the southbound lanes where he was also hit by a second vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who initially hit Alverson was believed to have been under the influence at the time. However California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the incident to determine who was at fault.

Alcohol-Related Crash in San Diego Causes Injuries

A car accident in San Diego involving a suspected drunk driver caused moderate injuries to three of his passengers. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the single-car crash involving an orange Dodge Neon occurred on the southbound 15 Freeway's transition to the 5 Freeway the morning of May 12, 2010.

The driver of the Dodge apparently lost control of his car and slammed into a concrete divider. The car was torn in half because of the impact. Three of the passengers were transported to a local hospital for injuries, which were not life-threatening. The driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Bakersfield DUI Car Accident Kills Three

Giselle Madrid, 17, and Marilupe Madrigal, 18, and Esmeralda Soriano, 20, were killed in a Bakersfield car accident, which officials say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Bakersfield Californian, the fatal crash occurred the evening of April 17, 2010 when Soriano was driving a 1997 Plymouth Breeze with Madrid and Madrigal in the car.

California Highway Patrol officials say Soriano was turning left from Reynolds Avenue to Weedpatch Highway when a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am driven by 19-year-old Leonel Nunez Jr. collided with the Plymouth. Nunez, who was driving southbound apparently crossed over into the northbound lanes and struck the teens' car. Officers say Nunez was drinking and arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI with injury, gross vehicular manslaughter and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent.
