Woman Killed in La Palma Car Accident

Christine Gilbert, 29, of Long Beach, was fatally injured in an Orange County car accident after the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed with another car and rolled over. According to The Orange County Register, the collision occurred on the westbound 91 Freeway near Walker Street, early morning on September 15, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say Gilbert was riding in a 2010 Toyota Corolla with two other people when it hit a 1999 Honda Accord. The Toyota veered off the highway and rolled over several times. Gilbert sustained fatal injuries after she was ejected from the vehicle. The Toyota's driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.

Motorcyclist Killed in La Verne Car Accident

James Chappell, 29, was killed in a Los Angeles County car accident after he struck a van, whose driver cut him off, officials said. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the morning of September 13, 2012 on the westbound 210 Freeway near Fruit Street.

California Highway Patrol officials say Chappell was riding his 2002 Honda CBR600 motorcycle in the carpool lane, when a 58-year-old Claremont man driving a 2010 Ford E-350 van moved into the carpool lane, crossing the double yellow line, directly into the path of the motorcyclist. Chappell was unable to avoid hitting the back of the van. In spite of wearing a helmet, Chappell suffered sever head trauma and died from his injuries. No arrested or citations have been reported yet. The investigation is ongoing.

Man Changing Tire Killed in Ontario Truck Accident

Sergio Becerra, 30, of Bell, was killed in a truck accident in Ontario after a tractor-trailer struck him. According to The San Bernardino County Sun, the fatal collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Euclid Avenue, the afternoon of September 10, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say they found evidence at the scene suggesting that Becerra was on the shoulder of the freeway changing a tire when the semi hit him. Becerra died at the scene. No arrests or citations have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Six Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Woodland Hills

At least six people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say involved several vehicles. According to a KABC news report, the injury crash occurred on the eastbound 101 Freeway just past Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills, the morning of September 5, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials said that as many as 14 people were involved, but only six were transported to a local hospital. None of the injuries is life threatening. The investigation is ongoing.

DUI Crash in Pasadena Causes Injuries

At least two people were injured in a Pasadena car accident, which officials say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the DUI crash occurred the night of August 20, 2012 on the 134 Freeway at South San Rafael Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials say 31-year-old John Reynoso was driving a Ford sedan and crashed into the back of a Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Toyota lost control, hit the center divider and broke the wall. The Cruiser's driver, a 55-year-old man and his female passenger were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Reynoso was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The investigation is ongoing.

Newport Beach Woman Arrested in Drunken Texting Crash in Riverside

A Newport Beach woman has been arrested in connection with causing a car accident in Riverside, which officials say involved alcohol, speeding, texting and making an unsafe lane change. According to The Press-Enterprise, the injury collision occurred on Highway 91 near Magnolia Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials say 27-year-old Teresa Lynn Hyde was speeding westbound in her Lexus IS300 on August 19, 2012, when she sideswiped a 1997 Ford Expedition SUV as she changed lanes.

Hyde's vehicle crashed and flipped over as she tried to flee the scene. Both women in the Expedition were injured. Officers say Hyde was texting while driving. She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. She apparently has at least a dozen traffic violations on her record in Orange County including a 2009 DUI conviction.

Man Killed in Long Beach DUI Crash

Francisco Gutierrez, 19, of Los Angeles was fatally injured in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a City News Service report, the DUI crash occurred early morning on June 25, 2012 in the southbound lanes of the 710 Freeway at Sixth Street. An 18-year-old woman was driving an Acura Integra in the number one lane. Gutierrez was a passenger. The vehicle struck the east curb below the Sixth Street overpass and veered across traffic lanes. The passenger side of the Acura struck a freeway sign and palm tree before coming to a stop. Gutierrez died from his injuries. The female driver was booked on suspicion of felony impaired driving and vehicular manslaughter.

Two Women Killed in Riverside Truck Accident

Two women, identified as Mandalena Maytorena, 32, of Riverside, and Cynthia Kay Barona, 38, were killed in a Riverside County car accident after the red Cadillac CTS in which they were traveling slammed into the back of a box truck. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the crash occurred early morning on June 13, 2012 on the Interstate 15 near Hidden Valley Road in Norco. California Highway Patrol officials said the Cadillac slammed into the back of the truck, which was traveling in the slow lane at 60 mph. On impact, the car became pinned under the truck causing the truck to spin out of control. Both vehicles rolled over. Both Maytorena and Barona died at the scene. The driver of the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Officials are still looking into what caused this tragic accident.

Boy Killed, Two Injured in Los Angeles DUI Collision

Maximillion Infinity Petrakos, 13, was killed and his mother and brother were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a CBS news report, the fatal car accident occurred on the westbound 60 Freeway just east of Seventh Avenue in Hacienda Heights early morning on June 3, 2012. Maximillion was apparently standing with his 41-year-old woman next to a disabled vehicle on the freeway's shoulder, when the suspect's vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder before hitting the victims and the disabled car.

A 10-year-old boy who was sitting in the rear seat of the disabled vehicle suffered moderate injuries. The mother suffered major injuries. Tina Silva, 28, the driver of the 2012 Honda Civic that struck the victims, initially left the scene, but was contacted by law enforcement and arrested. She is being held without bail. Officials say she was under the influence at the time of the fatal collision.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and many friends of Maximillion Infinity Petrakos who was fatally injured in this DUI collision. Woman Injured in Irvine Car Accident

A female driver suffered injuries in an Irvine car accident after another vehicle struck her car. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Bake Parkway, the morning of May 24, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say a Honda was trying to get around another vehicle and collided with the victim's Toyota Prius. The Prius, which was in the number one lane, ended up going over the right side and into a ditch. The driver of the Prius was transported to an area hospital. The nature and extent of her injuries is not known.

Three Women Injured in Irwindale Car Accident

Three women were hospitalized with injuries after a Los Angeles County car accident when their car left the freeway and went into the San Gabriel Riverbed. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury crash occurred the afternoon of May 23, 2012 in the southbound lanes of the 605 Freeway near Ramona Boulevard in Irwindale.

California Highway Patrol officials say one of the women was driving the Honda sedan in the number three lane. The driver tried to suddenly take an exit and lost control of the car. The vehicle veered to the right side of the roadway and rolled, coming to a stop on its roof about 75 feet down into the riverbed. One of the passengers was ejected. All three woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Three Injured in San Bernardino County Car Accident

Two motorcyclists and the driver of a SUV suffered major injuries in a San Bernardino car accident, the night of May 6, 2012. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the injury crash occurred on Highway 18 near Inspiration Drive in Running Springs. California Highway Patrol officials said Justin Kilgore, 30, was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson southbound and was being followed closely by Michael Anson, 30, who was riding a 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan.

At the time, a northbound Subaru Outback driven by 21-year-old Justin Evans crossed the double yellow line. Kilgore's Harley struck the left front of the Subaru. Kilgore was thrown from the bike. Anson, who was right behind Kilgore, was also thrown after his motorcycle hit the SUV. Kilgore, Anson and Evans were transported to area hospitals for treatment. It is not clear if any charges will be filed.

Man Killed in Los Angeles DUI Collision

George Deirkarkourian, 23, was killed in a Los Angeles County car accident after his vehicle was hit by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Walnut Patch, the fatal crash occurred early morning on April 29, 2012 on the 60 Freeway just west of Brea Canyon Road. California Highway Patrol officials say Deirkarkourian was driving a 2001 Ford and had slowed down because of traffic when he was rear-ended by a speeding 2012 BMW driven by Sheng-Ting Shih, 32, of Walnut. The impact of the collision caused the Ford to strike two other vehicles. Deirkarkourian died at the scene of the crash. Shih was arrested on suspicion of DUI. An investigation is ongoing.

Man Killed in Van Nuys Car Accident

A man was fatally injured in a Los Angeles car accident when his Chevrolet Blazer struck a bridge, the night of April 17, 2012. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the car crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway at Burbank Boulevard in Van Nuys. Officials say the victim died when his SUV struck the bridge. It is unclear at this time what may have caused the accident or if any other vehicles were involved.

Woman Fatally Injured in Los Angeles Car Accident

Vanessa Segarra, 28, of Van Nuys, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident when her Honda Accord collided with a Dodge Nitro. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal car crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 710 Freeway between the Imperial Highway and Firestone Boulevard in South Gate during the early morning hours of April 16, 2012. Officials are still trying to determine what caused the two vehicles to strike each other. Segarra succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident. One injured victim was treated at the site while three others were transported to a nearby hospital.
