San Diego Motorcycle Accident Causes Injuries

Two people were injured in a San Diego car accident the morning of February 14, 2010 after the motorcycle they were on, was struck by another vehicle. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the injury crash between a car and the motorcycle occurred at the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Christiansen Way. The car, which struck the motorcycle, was being driven by a 16-year-old, authorities said. The motorcyclist and his passenger, a woman, were taken to a local hospital with major injuries. The teen driver and her passenger did not sustain any injuries. An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.

My heart goes out to the victims who were injured in this accident. I hope and pray that they recover quickly and completely from their serious injuries.

Newport Beach Motorcyclist Killed in Riverside Car Accident

Robert Grice, Jr., 50, was killed in a Riverside car accident after his motorcycle collided head-on with a car, near Lake Elsinore, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Grice was riding his 2008 Ducati motorcycle on Ortega Highway the morning of December 6, 2009, when a Toyota Corolla crossed the center divide and crashed into his motorcycle. California Highway Patrol officials said the Corolla was traveling at about 45 mph when it swerved into opposing lanes to avoid a slowing vehicle. Grice was thrown off his motorcycle in the collision and sustained fatal injuries.

Off-duty Police Officer Dies in Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident

Kenneth Aragon, 48, an off-duty LAPD officer was killed in a motorcycle accident the morning of December 3, 2009 after he apparently lost control and crashed. According to a KTLA News report, the accident occurred near the intersection of Fletcher Drive and Larga Avenue in the Atwater Village area. Officials do not believe any other vehicles were involved in this crash. An investigation is ongoing.

San Diego Motorcycle Accident Kills U.S. Marine

A 23-year-old U.S. Marine was killed in a San Diego car accident after his motorcycle was struck by a car that turned left in front of him. According to a 10news report, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the morning of November 7, 2009 when the driver of a Lexus sedan traveling east on Miramar Road made a left turn directly into the path of the young Marine's Yamaha motorcycle near Camino Ruiz. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries although he was wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward in a local hospital.

Hit-and-Run Car Accident in San Bernardino Critically Injures Motorcyclist

Police in Hesperia are looking for two hit-and-run drivers who they say critically injured an 18-year-old woman during a San Bernardino car accident the evening of October 30, 2009. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, the teen was riding a Honda 50 motorcycle when a dark-colored SUV crashed into her head-on near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Olive Street. The vehicle then dragged the woman about 100 feet before leaving the scene of the accident, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said.

San Diego Car Accident Kills Motorcyclist

Garrett Bowman, 20, was killed in a San Diego car accident after a car turned left in front of him at a Rancho Penasquitos intersection, 10 news reports. Bowman was riding a motorcycle south on Black Mountain Road the evening of October 23, 2009 when a car headed north turned left on to Defreitas Avenue in front of him. Bowman was transported to a local hospital and had to undergo surgery, but died early morning on October 24. The driver of the car escaped with minor injuries, San Diego police said.

San Diego DUI Car Accident Kills Motorcyclist

Wayne Francis, 42, was killed in a San Diego car accident after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended his motorcycle at a Carlsbad intersection, 10news reports. Carlsbad police say Francis was stopped at a red light at Island Way when 41-year-old Keith Roles crashed his car into Francis' motorcycle. Roles suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Francis died shortly after the accident early morning October 10, 2009, of multiple blunt force injuries.

San Francisco Car Accident Injures Motorcycle Officer

A motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a San Francisco car accident after he was rear-ended by a van at a city intersection. According to a news article in the San Francisco Chronicle, the officer who was traveling north on Seventh Street, stopped at a green light the morning of October 6, 2009 to let an ambulance traveling through the intersection on Howard Street cross in front of him. The driver of the van that was behind the officer could not stop in time and collided with the motorcycle. San Francisco police said the skid marks stretched at least 20 feet along the road.

Fatal Orange County Motorcycle Accident

Bradley Wilson, 37, was killed in an Orange County motorcycle accident after he lost control of his motorcycle, struck a parked vehicle and crashed. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of Oct. 2, 2009 near the intersection of Del Obispo Street and Village Road in Dana Point, California as Wilson was traveling north on Del Obispo. Orange County Sheriff's investigators say they are looking into why Wilson lost control of his motorcycle. Wilson died of blunt force trauma and other injuries.

San Bernardino DUI Car Accident Injures Motorcycle Officer

A Rialto police officer suffered serious injuries in a San Bernardino car accident when a suspected drunk driver struck the officer's motorcycle. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of September 28, 2009 at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Merrill Street in Rialto, California. Police said Joel Hill, 63, the driver of a Ford Tempo and the officer were both headed south on Riverside Avenue before their vehicles collided. A preliminary investigation showed that Hill was not speeding and did not run a red light, but he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Hill was not injured in the crash.

Orange County Car Accident Injures Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist was hospitalized with injuries after an Orange County car accident the morning of August 31, 2009. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a black Acura struck a Honda Goldwing motorcycle in the 3900 block of Orange Avenue at Venada Drive in Anaheim, California. The motorcycle rider skidded into a curb. The unidentified rider was taken to an area hospital.

Orange County Motorcycle Accident Injures Man

A 30-year-old man suffered critical injuries in an Orange County motorcycle accident after his motorcycle struck a slow-moving car on Beach Boulevard in Westminster, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the man was driving a red Yamaha R6 north on Beach near Bishop Street when he hit a Scion Coupe that was making a turn into a restaurant parking lot. The motorcyclist suffered head injuries and several broken bones, Westminster police officials said. The driver of the Scion was uninjured.

San Diego Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Michael Vankleeck, 44, died in a San Diego motorcycle accident following a car collision the afternoon of July 31, 2009, 10news reports. The fatal motorcycle crash reportedly occurred at the intersection of Nacion Avenue and Montclair Street in Chula Vista, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office. Vankleeck was riding a motorcycle southbound on Nacion Avenue and ended up broadsiding the vehicle at the street intersection. Vankleeck died in an area hospital shortly after the accident.

Los Angeles County Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Victor Lizarraga, 35, was killed in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident after he collided with a small pickup truck the night of July 25, 2009 in Pomona, California. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred near Holt Avenue and Reservoir Street. Police say Lizarraga was riding his motorcycle east on Holt. The pickup truck, driven by Gerardo Alanis, 24, was traveling west on Holt before attempting a left turn onto southbound Reservoir. Lizarraga apparently could not stop in time to avoid the collision and ended up striking the right side of the truck. Lizarraga was pronounced dead at the scene. Alanis was uninjured.

Ventura Motorcycle Accident Seriously Injures Man

Frank Hendricks, 54, was seriously injured in a Ventura motorcycle accident the evening of July 14, 2009 when a car ran over him after it was rear-ended, the Ventura County Star reports. The motorcycle crash occurred near Thompson Boulevard and Santa Cruz Street. Hendricks was stopped on eastbound Thompson waiting to turn his motorcycle left onto Santa Cruz when a motorist failed to stop for traffic and hit the car stopped behind Hendricks. The stopped car was then pushed forward into Hendricks, who fell off his motorcycle and onto the car's hood and was then run over by the car.

Hendricks was trapped under the car, but soon rescued by a group of witnesses who lifted the car off him, Ventura police officials said. Hendricks was transported to an area hospital where he is said to be in stable condition. Police say the 48-year-old man who struck the car behind Hendricks and caused the chain reaction collision was traveling too fast for road conditions. The man was not cited or arrested pending the ongoing investigation.

My heart goes out to the injured motorcyclist, Frank Hendricks, who was clearly the victim in this case. I'm relieved that he did not suffer critical injuries in this car crash. It could have been a lot worse but for the Good Samaritans who lifted the car off Hendricks right away. I hope and pray Hendricks makes a quick and complete recovery.

California Motorcycle Accident Causes Injuries

Two people suffered injuries in a car versus motorcycle accident in San Luis Obispo. According to a news report on KSBY, the motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of July 11, 2009 near Orcutt Road and Avocado Lane. California Highway Patrol officials say a woman driving a Mazda Miata attempted to pass a motorcycle when her car fishtailed and hit the motorcycle. The woman then drove the car into the fence of a local vineyard. Both the woman and the motorcyclist were taken to the hospital with injuries.

I'm relieved that neither the motorcyclist nor the car's driver suffered life-threatening injuries. I wish them both the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), in the city of San Luis Obispo there were no fatalities, but 24 injuries involving motorcycle accidents. In San Luis Obispo County as a whole, six fatalities and 102 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents that year.

Street Racing Causes Fatal Ventura County Motorcycle Accident

Travis Lee, 27, was killed in a Ventura motorcycle accidentmotorcycle accident after he lost control and crashed into a car at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Avocet Drive. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred June 21, 2009. Eyewitnesses told Ventura police that Lee was southbound on Victoria Avenue, racing with a red Corvette between intersections. At Avocet Drive, Lee was facing a red light and tried to stop. But he lost control of the motorcycle and slid to the side of a sport utility vehicle headed westbound through the intersection. Lee was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The driver of the Corvette was cited and released for being involved in a speed contest, which is a misdemeanor.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Travis Lee for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest condolences to them. I'm also relieved that no one else was injured in this unfortunate incident, which occurred because two people were behaving irresponsibly and with callous disregard for public safety.

In California, racing on a public street or a highway is illegal. California Vehicle Code section 23109 (a) states: "A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device. For purposes of this section, an event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20 miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest."

San Bernardino County Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Edgar Hernandez-Uribe, 18, died in a fatal San Bernardino motorcycle accident the morning of July 1, 2009 on the 10 Freeway in Colton. According to the San Bernardino Sun, Edgar Hernandez-Uribe was riding a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle when he veered off the freeway and crash. The impact threw him off the bike, California Highway Patrol officials said. Hernandez-Uribe was pronounced dead at the scene.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of young Edgar Hernandez-Uribe for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this man. Please keep them in your prayers.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there was one fatality and 23 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Colton. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 28 deaths and 627 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents.

Huntington Beach Motorcycle Accident Injures Two Men

Daniel Gonzalez, 27, and Marc Tisherman, 33, suffered severe head injuries in a Huntington Beach motorcycle accident after they first collided with one another and were then hit by a passing sport utility vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Gonzalez and Tisherman crashed into each another on Beach Boulevard near Talbert and were ejected the evening of May 31, 2009.

A Toyota 4Runner then struck the two motorcyclists. Gonzalez and Tisherman were taken to area hospitals with severe head trauma. Both motorcyclists had been riding north on Beach in the first lane. Officials are still trying to determine why Gonzalez and Tisherman collided. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner was identified as Edward Cordova of San Dimas. Cordova was not personally injured. Huntington Beach police are asking anyone who witnessed this incident to call their traffic investigators at 714-536-5661.

Orange County Motorcycle Accident

Kelly Reister, 51, of Mission Viejo was killed in an Orange County motorcycle accident after she lost control and crashed the evening of May 17, 2009 on Ortega Highway, The Orange County Register reports. According to CHP officials, Reister was traveling westbound on the Ortega Highway on her 2008 Harley Davidson and was approaching a sweeping left curve on the roadway near San Juan Creek bridge when she failed to negotiate the curve and veered to the right striking a rock. Reister, who officials say was a novice rider, was traveling at 35 mph at the time of the motorcycle accident. She was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway. She was airlifted to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Kelly Reister for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Reister. Please keep them in your prayers.

According to recent motorcycle accident statistics released by the CHP, there were 980 motorcycle accidents in Orange County in 2007, which resulted in 24 deaths. There were 3,472 motorcycle accidents in Los Angeles County and 714 in Riverside during the same year. In Los Angeles County, the number of motorcycle accident fatalities has increased at a significant rate. There were 85 deaths and 2,792 injuries relating to motorcycle accidents in Los Angeles County in 2007. CHP studies show 96 people died in motorcycle collisions in 2008 in Los Angeles County compared to 58 deaths in 2001.
