Receiving Help After A California Motorcycle Accident

Motorcycle accidents are all too common on our streets and highways. In some cases, these accidents are caused by inattention on the part of a motorcycle rider; however, it is far more common for a car driver to be at fault. Unfortunately, many motorcycle riders are injured or even killed in collisions with automobiles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, the rate for fatal motorcycle crashes is about 72 per 100,000 riders. By comparing these figures to fatal car accident rates, which are 13 for 100,000 drivers, it is easy to see that motorcycle riders are at much greater risk of death than those who drive cars. In fact, the NHTSA estimates that motorcycle riders are 35 times more likely to die in a crash than drivers of passenger cars. Alcohol use is by far one of the largest contributing factors to both single motorcycle accidents and car accidents involving motorcycles.

In the Hurt Report, a Congressionally-commissioned report on the safety of motorcycle travel, researchers found that “the failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominate cause of motorcycle accidents.” In other words, most motorcycle accidents happen not due to poor motorcycling skills, but due to collisions in which the driver of a car either fails to see a motorcyclist or fails to allow adequate maneuvering room to avoid a collision.

If you have been the victim of a motorcycle accident, it is important to seek help from an experienced professional. California motorcycle accident lawyers understand the complexities of a motorcycle accident case, and can help you recover damages due to an accident with a car driver, or due to uncontrollable factors such as road conditions. No matter what the circumstances of your accident, you should always consult an experienced professional injury attorney to determine the possibility of collecting payment for your medical bills, pain and suffering, and other expenses such as lost time at work.
