Pedestrian Killed In Hacienda Heights Car Accident

A 19-year-old man was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by a sedan. According to the Pasadena Star News, the sedan was traveling east on Gale Avenue, in Hacienda Heights, when a driver struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian appeared to be jaywalking, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Hiroshi Yokoyama. The pedestrian was transported to Citrus Valley Medical Center where he died.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the 19-year-old pedestrian. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Los Angeles Woman Seriously Injured in Car Accident

Madeline Mezger, 19, was seriously injured in a car accident after she was struck by a vehicle while walking with friends in San Luis Obispo. According to a news report, Mezger was walking across California Boulevard from the railroad tracks on February 21, 2010, when she had stopped in the middle of the street. A 2009 Nissan Cube driven by 21-year-old Anthony Micheal Colicchio struck her. The driver told police that Mezger was wearing black and that he did not see her in time to avoid the collision. Mezger was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. Officials do not believe Colicchio was under the influence of alcohol. An investigation is ongoing.

I hope Mezger's injuries were not catastrophic and wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. She will be in my prayers.

Elderly Pedestrian Killed in Orange County Car Accident

An 80-year-old man sustained fatal injuries in an Orange County car accident after he was struck by a car the morning of January 29, 2010 while crossing the street, The Orange County Register reports. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was crossing at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Bolsa Avenue in Seal Beach when the vehicle hit him. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where he died.

San Francisco Area Car Accident Killed Teen Pedestrian

Michelle Cordova, 15, was fatally injured in a San Francisco car accident after a driver struck her as she was walking in a marked crosswalk. According to a news report in The Press Democrat, Michelle was crossing West College Avenue at Link Lane in Santa Rosa, the evening of January 27, 2010, when a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Orion Swank, struck her. Swank said he did not see Michelle and her cousin in the crosswalk. The force of the collision threw Michelle about 30 feet from the point of impact. She was taken to an area hospital where she died. Police said speed or alcohol were not factors in this fatal pedestrian accident. Michelle's cousin, who was walking ahead of her, was uninjured.

Ventura Car Accident Kills Pedestrian

Laurie Perr, 50, was killed in a Ventura car accident after she was struck by an UPS struck, during an evening walk with a friend. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the accident happened the evening of December 4, 2009, when Perr was about to cross Worth Way at a stop sign, near Upland Road in Camarillo. The UPS truck was making a right turn from Worth on to Upland when it hit Perr. She was pronounced dead shortly after the accident. An investigation is ongoing. Los Angeles Car Accident Kills 15-year-old Pedestrian

Garrett Wheeler, 15, was killed and another person was injured in a Los Angeles car accident after they were both struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Leimert Park, CBS News reports. The crash occurred the afternoon of December 3, 2009 at the intersection of 50th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard. Witnesses told Los Angeles police that Garrett and the other male were both hit by a compact SUV as they crossed the street. The 15-year-old boy died at the scene. The other victim was taken to the hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known. Police said the driver of the SUV was uninjured.

Ventura Car Accident Injures Two Young Pedestrians

Two girls were injured, one of them critically, in a Ventura car accident as they attempted to cross the street the afternoon of November 29, 2009. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the 11- and 12-year-old girls were crossing Saticoy Avenue near the Ventura Community Church, when a car driven by 43-year-old Esaul Alamillo struck them. Police say there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol at the scene. Both girls were taken to an area hospital and one of them suffered critical injuries. Ventura police officials are looking into what caused this accident.

Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Woman in Crosswalk

Angel Kazanjian, 78, and her daughter Amral Yakoubian, 36, sustained major injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after they were hit by a car while crossing a street in a crosswalk the night of November 23, 2009. According to a news report in the Pasadena Star News, the accident occurred at Washington Boulevard and Bresee Avenue. The women were walking north to south on Washington Boulevard and were hit when they came into the eastbound lanes. The driver of the car that hit them was identified only as a 69-year-old Pasadena woman. She was uninjured. Kazanjian was listed in critical condition while Yakoubian sustained serious injuries.

Pedestrian Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

Angelina Bandino, 15, was killed and another victim was critically injured in a San Bernardino car accident the evening of November 17, 2009, the Victorville Daily Press reports. The fatal pedestrian accident occurred on Cottonwood Avenue near Mauna Loa Street in Hesperia, California. According to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, Angelina was walking on the shoulder of Cottonwood Avenue with two other friends, when a pickup truck struck them. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene and airlifted the second victim to an area hospital for treatment of major injuries. Angelina and the other victim were walking legally on the shoulder of the road, within designated areas, according to preliminary findings. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.

Elderly Woman Injured in San Diego Car Accident

An elderly woman suffered serious head injuries in a San Diego car accident, after she was struck by an SUV while crossing the street in the city's Gaslamp Quarter, 10news reports. The woman was crossing southbound on E Street the morning of November 10, 2009 and police say she had the "walk" sign. The SUV made a left turn on E Street from southbound Sixth Avenue, striking her. She was taken to an area hospital with major head injuries. The 50-year-old male driver of the SUV was not arrested or cited pending a police investigation.

Long Beach Car Accident Critically Injures Pedestrian

A Cal State Long Beach student has sustained critical injuries in a Long Beach car accident after he was struck by vehicle while crossing the road, The Long Beach Press Telegram reports. The pedestrian was in a crosswalk at Seventh Street and West Campus Road when he was struck by a car the night of November 8, 2009. Long Beach police said the female driver initially started to drive away, but then stopped and called for help. The student was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver has not been arrested pending a police investigation.

Ventura County Car Accident Injures Pedestrian

Chris Drager, 32, sustained serious injuries in a Ventura car accident the night of November 1, 2009 after he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a major thoroughfare in Oak View, California. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, Drager was trying to get across North Ventura Avenue near Park Avenue when a truck driven by 65-year-old Antonio Bernal struck him. California Highway Patrol officials said Drager was transported to an area hospital for critical head injuries, cuts to his arms, legs and torso. Bernal and his two passengers were not hurt. CHP officials say Drager was not in a crosswalk when he was crossing Ventura Avenue. They also say Bernal was driving within the speed limit of 35 mph. He was not cited or arrested pending an investigation.

San Diego Pedestrian Accident Injures Woman in Wheelchair

A 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair was injured in a San Diego car accident the afternoon of October 16, 2009 after she was hit by a speeding car, CBS News reports. The woman was apparently in an unmarked crosswalk in the 2300 block of Sixth Avenue near Balboa Park when the vehicle struck her. San Diego police officials said no alcohol or drugs were involved, but speed was a factor in the pedestrian-car crash. It's not clear whether the 55-year-old male driver was cited or arrested. The woman was taken to a San Diego hospital with a broken hip and other possible injuries.

Man Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident During Police Chase

A pedestrian was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the night of September 26, 2009 when a driver who was fleeing from California Highway Patrol officials struck and killed the man. According to an Associated Press news report, the victim who has not been identified yet, was in a crosswalk on Ventura Boulevard in the Woodland Hills area when he was hit by 26-year-old Hector Vidal who was being pursued by CHP officers. Vidal reportedly, at one point during the pursuit, also traded gunfire with police. The victim died at the scene. Vidal was eventually arrested after rear-ending an SUV.

Riverside Car Accident Kills Pedestrian

A woman died in a Riverside car accident the morning of September 21, 2009 after she was struck by four vehicles as she crossed a freeway off-ramp in Corona, California. According to a CBS news report, the woman, who has not yet been identified, was first struck by a Honda Civic driven by 23-year-old Pedro Vargas who was exiting the 15 Freeway at El Cerrito Road. Vargas told California Highway Patrol officials that he tried to avoid the pedestrian, but couldn't. The woman was hit by the left front fender.

San Bernardino Car Accident Leaves Two Children Injured

Two children were injured in a San Bernardino car accident the morning of September 16, 2009 after they were struck by a car while crossing the street on their way to school. According to a news report in the San Bernardino County Sun, an 8-year-old girl is on life support after having suffered critical injuries. Another girl, also 8, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. The car accident occurred near the corner of Walnut and Riverside avenues in Rialto, California. Police say there was no crosswalk in the area, but that the children were "well across the roadway" when they were struck. The driver of the car that hit the girls has not been cited or arrested pending an investigation.

A man in his 80s was injured in an Orange County car accident after he was struck by a car while crossing Brookhurst Street in Anaheim, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a black Acura hit the man the night of September 9, 2009 after he was half way across Brookhurst and near Ball Road. There was no crosswalk where the man was walking. He was taken to an area hospital with injuries.

Hit-and-Run San Francisco Car Accident Injures Pedestrian

One person was critically injured in a San Francisco car accident the night of August 11, 2009 after being struck by a car on Van Ness Avenue, the San Francisco Examiner reports. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was walking near the intersection of California Street and Van Ness Avenue when a car hit him, San Francisco police said. After hitting the pedestrian, the motorist drove away from the scene of the car accident. Police do not have a description yet of the motorist or the suspect vehicle.
