Chevy Suburban Fatal Rollover Accident

Three members of a family traveling home to Colorado from California, were killed in a rollover car accident on July 13, 2009 in Wyoming, according to a news report in the Littleton Independent. Dodi Arnold, 45, and her two daughters--24-year-old Kinni and 15-year-old Bailey--were killed. Jonathan Arnold, 43, the father and daughter, 16-year-old Dellen Arnold, suffered injuries but are recovering.

Wyoming State Patrol officials say this is one of the worst rollover car accidents they have seen in those parts. They say the fatal car accident occurred when a semi-truck caused Dellen, an inexperienced driver, to overcorrect the vehicle just east of Rock Springs, Wyoming. Dellen was driving the family's 2009 Chevy Suburban when a big rig began to change lanes. The Suburban may have been in the trucker's blind spot, officials say. Once the semi changed lanes, the Suburban's right tires were pushed into the inside of the rumble strip. Apparently an experienced driver may have been able to maneuver the SUV away from the semi, but the teen had problems controlling the vehicle. Police say drugs, alcohol or speed were not factors in this car crash.

Harbor City Minivan Rollover Crash Kills Two

Traffic investigators in San Pedro are still trying to figure out what caused a fatal rollover crash on December 25, 2008 on the 110 Freeway. The fatal rollover crash killed 38-year old Sheryl Ann Thacker and her mother, Carmela Rodriguez, 64. Injured in this Harbor City auto accident were Thacker’s son Richard Pena, 21, her 12-year-old daughter and a relative, 22-year-old Matthew Crunk. Our source for this blog was this news report in the Daily Breeze.

Police say Thacker lost control of her 1994 Chevy minivan north on the freeway at 60 to 65 mph. Thacker apparently lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and suddenly veered to the right. The minivan then traveled across all traffic lanes and struck the wood and metal guardrail on the right shoulder. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to roll over and land upside down.

What a horrible fate to be met with on the way to a Christmas Day gathering! My heart goes out to all members of Sheryl Ann Thacker’s family. Not only do they have to bury two family members during the holidays, but must deal with other injured victims who are recovering from this awful crash. Rollover accidents cause about 10,000 fatalities annually in the United States, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). That number amounts to one-fourth or 25 percent of all auto accident fatalities in the country. A lot of these accidents occur because of inherently unstable vehicles that overturn even at lower speeds. In this particular fatal rollover crash, California Highway Patrol officials say that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. I would also be curious to find out whether the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Lompoc Chevy Suburban Rollover Accident Injures Five

A family of five including two adults, two children and one infant, were injured in a Chevy Suburban rollover accident on the northbound Highway 135 near Orcutt, California on November 22, 2008. According to an article in the Lompoc Record, the injured victims, whose names were not released, were taken to an area hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid an object in one of the lanes, lost control then overcorrected, causing the SUV to rollover.

It is indeed a great relief that none of the occupants of the Suburban were killed in this SUV rollover accident. A majority of General Motors Company SUV rollover accidents involve roof collapse or crushing and this causes severe head or spinal cord injuries to its occupants. Other injuries that occur in auto defect cases such as this can also be the result of seat belt failures. The family in this 11/22/08 rollover incident would be well-advised to consult with a nationally renowned product defect law firm that is truly experienced in handling GMC SUV litigation.

Rollover Crash Near Paso Robles Kills Cambria Toddler and Father

A 3-year-old Cambria boy and his father, Ronnie Clemmons, died in a single vehicle rollover accident Sept. 1 on the Highway 46 East. Nichole Clemmons, 20, was driving the Nissan Titan when the truck drifted off the roadway. When the driver tried to overcorrect, the truck left the roadway and rolled over, according to an article in the San Luis Obispo Tribune. The boy, Caleb Clemmons, who was in a child car seat, and his father were both ejected from the vehicle. Ronnie Clemmons was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt.

Nichole Clemmons and 10-month-old Lauren Clemmons reportedly suffered minor injuries. California Highway Patrol officials are saying that the focus of the auto accident investigation is whether the child safety seat was properly restrained in the vehicle at the time of the rollover crash. Drugs or alcohol were not involved in the accident, CHP officials say.

Please keep this grieving family, which has lost two beloved family members, in your prayers. I offer my deepest condolences to the Clemmons family.

It will be interesting to see whether the child car seat holding Caleb was properly restrained in the vehicle. If it was, then investigators should look into whether there was a product defect as far as the child car seat is concerned. Did the car seat hold up and protect the child as it was supposed to during that rollover crash? The infant in the car seems to have been secured and escaped with minor injuries. It is indeed unfortunate that Ronnie Clemmons was not buckled up. That seatbelt could have saved his life.
