Santa Ana Motorcycle Accident Kills San Juan Capistrano Man

By

Jason Woods, 24, of San Juan Capistrano, died in a Santa Ana motorcycle accident on Sept. 25 after his motorcycle collided with a commercial box truck, The Orange County Register reports. Woods was riding a Honda motorcycle west on Dyer Road near Red Hill Avenue when he crashed into the truck, which was making a left turn into a driveway at 2001 E. Dyer, Santa Ana police officials said.

The driver of the box truck did not suffer any injuries. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in this fatal motorcycle accident. This is apparently another addition to a series of motorcycle accidents in Santa Ana this month. On Sept. 19 a motorcycle crash killed 25-year-old Giovanni Santamaria of Santa Ana who lost control of his motorcycle while turning on South Bristol Avenue causing him to crash into a tree.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Jason Woods as well as Giovanni Santamaria.

It’s probably too early to tell in the Woods’ case whether the truck driver was at fault. But it is very likely that the driver of the commercial truck did not see Woods approaching and made the left turn while failing to yield the right-of-way to approaching traffic. If that’s what happened, then Woods would have had the right of way and the truck driver and his employer could be held responsible for the accident.

I’d urge the family of Jason Woods as well as Giovanni Santamaria to retain the services of an experienced Santa Ana motorcycle accident attorney. The truck driver’s employer probably has his attorney and insurance team already building a case for defending their side of the story. The Woods’ family needs a skilled personal injury lawyer on their side to thoroughly investigate the incident and determine the responsible party. If I were handling this motorcycle accident case I’d also examine the vehicle for product defects, mechanical malfunctions and other evidence.
