Man Injured in San Diego County Motorcycle Accident

By

A 44-year-old motorcyclist suffered critical injuries in an Escondido motorcycle accident on January 13, 2009, after he was struck by a car that backed out of a driveway, according to the North County Times news report. The man was riding his Suzuki motorcycle east in the 100 block of West 15th Avenue when a Toyota Camry backed out of a driveway in front of him, Escondido police officials said.

The driver of the Camry stopped at the scene of the collision. When police arrived they saw the motorcyclist semi-conscious on the roadway. The motorcyclist suffered a broken neck and leg injuries. The driver of the Camry, identified as an Escondido man, was not injured. Anyone who witnessed this San Diego County auto accident is asked to call Officer Scott Christensen at 760-839-4962.

I’m relieved that this motorcyclist did not suffer fatal injuries as a result of this car versus motorcycle collision. I am however concerned that he was diagnoses with a broken neck. I pray that this does not leave him with lifelong injuries or disabilities and wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System, in 2006, there was one fatality and 33 injuries reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in the city of Escondido. In San Diego County as a whole, motorcycle accidents caused 39 deaths and 1,038 injuries in 2006.

If this newspaper report is accurate, it appears to me that the driver of the Camry was not paying attention to the road as he was backing out of the driveway. If the driver of the Camry is determined to have been at fault then he could be held liable for the accident and injuries caused to the motorcyclist. The injured victim, in this case the motorcyclist, would be well-advised to retain the services of an experienced California motorcycle accident attorney, who will fight for his rights and make sure he receives the compensation he rightfully deserves.

In this incident, the injured victim will be entitled to claim compensation to cover damage to his vehicle, current and future medical expenses, pain, suffering as well as lost current and future wages. In auto accidents that involve neck or spinal injuries, I know that it can be a long, hard and expensive road to recovery and I sincerely hope this motorcycle accident victim gets the financial compensation he needs to make it through this tough time.
