Bakersfield Car Accident Kills Young Man

By

Jose Hernandez, Jr., 19, was killed in a Bakersfield car accident east of Bakersfield on May 22, 2009 after the Honda Civic he was driving collided head-on with a Toyota minivan on Bear Mountain Boulevard. According to a KGET news report, Hernandez was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger in the Civic, 18-year-old Cecilia Rivas, was taken to an area hospital with personal injuries. But she has been listed in fair condition. The driver of the minivan, 32-year-old Judith Vasquez, was taken the hospital with major injuries. California Highway Patrol officials say all three injured victims were wearing seat belts.

My heart goes out to the family of the car accident victim for their sudden, tragic and heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I also wish the very best to Cecilia Rivas and Judith Vasquez for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System, there were 24 fatalities and 1,126 injuries involving car accidents in Bakersfield. In Kern County as a whole, 142 deaths and 3,615 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of car accidents.

Based on this news report, it is not clear who was to blame for this fatal head-on collision. Obviously someone left their traffic lane and collided head-on with the other car. If Judith Vasquez was at fault, then she could be held accountable for the Bakersfield car accident and the resulting personal injuries. The family of Jose Hernandez as well as the injured victim in this case, Cecilia Rivas, would be well advised to contact an experienced California car accident attorney, who will help carefully evaluate this case, examine accident reports and eyewitness reports to determine what happened here.

If a motor vehicle defect caused one of the drivers to lose control of their car, then the manufacturer of the defective product could also be held liable. In some car collisions, a dangerous roadway or a dangerous condition on the roadway could also cause or contribute to those accidents. In such cases, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could be held liable. If you have been injured in a car accident and are looking for answers, the best course of action is to contact a reputed car accident attorney that will get to work on your case and find those answers for you. The best California car accident law firms will always offer victims and their families a free and comprehensive consultation.
