Los Angeles County Car Accident Injured Three

By

Raquel Christian Leon, 21, and another 15-year-old boy, suffered major personal injuries in a Whittier car accident the night of April 21, 2009, according to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. California Highway Patrol officials said the car accident occurred near Scott Avenue when a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Leffingwell Road crashed head-on into a Nissan Altima. Officials do not know why the pickup’s driver was going the wrong way.

The Nissan’s driver, Raquel Christian Leon, and a 15-year-old involved in the car crash were seriously injured. The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Derik Armstrong, was not injured but his 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with moderate personal injuries. No one has been cited or arrested pending an investigation.

I hope and pray that Raquel Leon and the two teens who were injured in this Whittier car collision, have a quick and complete recovery. I’m relieved that this incident did not result in any fatalities.

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System, there were nine fatalities and 411 injuries involving traffic accidents in Whittier. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported during the same period.

Based on this newspaper report, it seems the driver of the pickup, Derik Armstrong, was at fault for this Los Angeles car accident. However, the question here is how or why Armstrong got on the wrong side of the street. Was he driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Was he distracted or disoriented for some reason? Whatever the reason, Armstrong has apparently caused a car collision that has left three people in the hospital with serious injuries.

Raquel Leon and the other injured victims would be well-advised to consult with experienced California car accident attorneys to get more information about their legal rights and options. If you have been in a car accident that you believe was caused by another driver’s negligence, then you may be able to receive compensation to cover your medical expenses, loss of wages, property damage and other related expenses. Please remember that the best California personal injury attorneys will not charge any fees for providing a comprehensive initial consultation.
