Alberta Ricker, a 71-year-old woman was killed in a Santa Ana car accident, which officials say was caused by a teenager who was street racing. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a 19-year-old man in a 2005 Dodge Ram was headed west on Edinger Avenue the afternoon of May 7, 2009 and was allegedly racing a white Honda or Acura. Santa Ana police officials said Ricker was driving southbound on Van Ness Avenue in her 2007 Mazda sedan when she entered the intersection of Van Ness and Edinger to make a left turn on to Edinger. The Dodge truck broadsides Ricker’s Mazda and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the car crash. The 19-year-old driver was taken to the hospital for observation. An investigation of the car accident is ongoing.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Alberta Ricker for their tragic loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved the victim of this tragic Orange County car accident. Here was a woman going about her business when she gets suddenly hit and taken away from her loved ones because of a few people’s negligence and reckless behavior. Please keep Ricker’s family and friends in your prayers.
Hundreds are killed everyday in the United States because a few reckless individuals who have absolutely no regard for the safety of others or even their own decide to race on public streets. Unfortunately Alberta Ricker became a car accident statistic last week on the streets of Santa Ana because of this young man’s callousness. I hope he and others who caused this fatal Orange County car crash are held accountable for their actions. If officials determine that this teen caused the fatal car collision, he could be facing vehicular manslaughter charges. He should also be held civilly responsible for the damage, loss and heartache he has caused the Ricker family. The other driver or drivers who were racing on this public street could also be held partially liable for the accident because they were participants in the illegal street racing.
Alberta Ricker’s family would be well-advised to contact experienced Orange County car accident attorneys who will fight to protect their rights and make sure they get the justice and compensation they rightfully deserve. If there is negligence or wrongdoing involved here, Ricker’s family can file a wrongful death claim, which will help compensate them for medical/funeral costs, loss of wages, loss of companionship and other related damages. Skilled Orange County personal injury attorneys will also look into other factors such as a dangerous roadway or intersection, which may have caused or contributed to a car accident.
