Vankleeck was riding a motorcycle southbound on Nacion Avenue and ended up broadsiding the vehicle at the street intersection. Vankleeck died in an area hospital shortly after the accident.

San Diego Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System (SWITRS), one fatality and 42 injuries were reported in Chula Vista as a result of motorcycle accidents. In San Diego County as a whole, there were 50 deaths and 985 injuries in 2007 involving motorcycle accidents.

This news report does not state how or why this fatal California car accident occurred. However, based on the account, it appears that the vehicle may have turned in front of the motorcyclist. As California motorcycle accident attorneys, we often see that vehicles make illegal U-turns or left turns in front of motorcyclists. In such cases, it is the motorcyclists who suffer devastating injuries because they cannot stop in time and end up broadsiding the vehicle that is attempting to turn at the intersection. Again, we don’t know at this point if this is what happened in this case, but I would not be surprised if that’s what occurred.

California Personal Injury Lawyer

The family of Michael Vankleeck would be well-advised to retain the services of an experienced California personal injury lawyer who will help analyze all the fact of this case and also determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the motorist here. A skilled car accident attorney will also look into whether a dangerous intersection may have caused or contributed to this fatal accident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable as well. Please remember that any such claim against a governmental entity in California must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
