A 30-year-old man suffered critical injuries in an Orange County motorcycle accident after his motorcycle struck a slow-moving car on Beach Boulevard in Westminster, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the man was driving a red Yamaha R6 north on Beach near Bishop Street when he hit a Scion Coupe that was making a turn into a restaurant parking lot. The motorcyclist suffered head injuries and several broken bones, Westminster police officials said. The driver of the Scion was uninjured.
My heart goes out to this motorcyclist who was seriously injured in this Westminster car accident. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep him in your prayers.
Orange County Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 37 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in the city of Westminster. In Orange County as a whole, 24 deaths and 752 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in 2007.
Based on this news report, Westminster police say the motorcyclist had been weaving through traffic before he struck the Scion. However, there are no reports that he was speeding or whether alcohol or drugs were involved. I trust the investigation is also looking into whether the driver of the Scion suddenly slowed down making it difficult for the motorcyclist to stop in time and avoid the crash.
Orange County Car Accident Attorney
In such cases, it is in the best interest of the victims and their families to consult with an experienced Orange County car accident attorney who will analyze all aspects of the case and make sure the negligent parties are held liable. If the motorist made a sudden stop or was otherwise negligent, he or she could be held liable for the motorcyclist’s injuries. Of course, there is also the possibility that the motorcyclist failed to judge the distance between his vehicle and the car or was traveling at an unsafe speed for the traffic conditions at that time. I trust a detailed official investigation will bring out all the facts of this case.
A skilled personal injury lawyer will also look into whether there was some kind of dangerous condition on the roadway that may have caused or contributed to this accident. If that was the case, the city could be held liable. Please remember that any claim against a California governmental agency must be filed within six months of the accident or injury.
