San Bernardino DUI Car Accident Causes Major Injuries

By

Two people suffered critical injuries in a San Bernardino car accident the evening of September 24, 2009, after two cars collided head-on in Ontario, California. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, a driver was speeding south on Vine Avenue and collided head-on into another vehicle. The impact caused the speeding vehicle to roll over. Three of its occupants were ejected onto the roadway. Ontario police say alcohol may have played a part in this car accident. The speeding motorist may have also turned off the car’s headlights right before the car collision, police said. At least one person in the other vehicle was injured.

My heart goes out to the victims who were injured as a result of this senseless car crash. I hope the injured victims recover quickly and completely. They will be in my prayers.

DUI Car Accidents

I’m not surprised that officials believe this accident was fueled by alcohol. The driver of the speeding car in this Ontario car accident will no doubt face serious criminal charges in this crash, even if he weren’t drunk. This incident was very likely caused as a result of someone’s recklessness and a callous disregard for the safety of others. What were they thinking?

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), eight fatalities and 130 injuries were reported as a result of alcohol-related car accidents in Ontario, California. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 105 fatalities and 1,174 injuries were reported involving alcohol-related car accidents in 2007.

California Car Accident Laws

Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is a serious crime. California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a) states: “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.” The same code section also states that it is illegal for any person with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more to drive a vehicle.

The injured victims in this case would be well-advised to contact a reputed California personal injury lawyer who will examine this case thoroughly, identify the negligent parties and hold them accountable. The victims and their families also need an injury lawyer who is experienced and has a successful track record of financially pursuing drunk drivers and securing fair compensation for victims, to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization and medication and other related damages.
