Rees Boynton Skinner, 53, was killed in a San Diego car accident after another vehicle collided head-on with this pickup truck. According to a 10news report, the fatal accident occurred November 20, 2009, when 20-year-old Justin Jones lost control of his 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck . Jones veered directly into the path of Skinner’s 2002 Ford F-150 near the Old Julian Highway intersection, California Highway Patrol officials said. Jones is apparently not licensed to drive. Skinner was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene. Investigators also say Skinner may not have been wearing his seatbelt.
This accident is no doubt, a huge tragedy for everybody who knew and loved Rees Boynton Skinner. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends. They will be in my prayers.
San Diego Car Accident Statistics
There were 84 fatalities and 6,516 injuries involving car accidents in San Diego in 2007, according to CHP’s traffic accident statistics for that year. In San Diego County, car accidents claimed 268 lives and injured 14,641 people during the same year.
Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused Jones to lose control of the Dodge and crash head-on into Skinner’s car. However, if the details of this news report are accurate, it seems to me that this accident was Jones’ fault. There are still many questions that need to be answered. Was Jones under the influence of alcohol at the time? Was he distracted? Was Jones speeding on the mountain road when the collision occurred? Was he driving recklessly or otherwise negligent?
Contacting an Experienced Personal Injury Lawyer
If Jones is found to be at fault for this car accident, then he could be held liable for Skinner’s fatal injuries and wrongful death. In such cases, it would be in the best interest of victims or their families to seek the counsel of an experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will protect their legal rights and make sure they receive just compensation for their injuries, damages and loss. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer should also advise them about how their car insurance policy will apply to an uninsured or underinsured driver.
