A woman, who was killed in a Riverside car accident, after the SUV which she was riding in crashed with another vehicle, has been identified by officials as 61-year-old Lillian Biundo. According to news reports and county officials, the fatal car accident occurred at the intersection of Mapes and Menifee roads, when the driver of a Honda van failed to yield right-of-way to the Ford Excursion SUV in which Biundo was a passenger. Menifee police officials say the Honda Odyssey van that was going east on Mapes did not stop for northbound traffic on Menifee.
Biundo was ejected from the Excursion and died at the scene. Six others in the SUV were also injured including a child who sustained serious injuries. The SUV was crumpled on impact and firefighters had to extricate some of the occupants from the wreckage. The driver of the Odyssey, who is believed to have caused this fatal crash, was not injured.
I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Lillian Biundo for their devastating loss. My heart also goes out to the young child who was seriously injured in this car accident. I wish all injured victims the very best for a quick and full recovery. Please keep these victims in your prayers.
Car Accident Causes
Officials say Biundo was not wearing her seatbelt that the time of the accident. But the bigger question here is why the driver of the Honda failed to yield right-of-way at the intersection. Was the driver under the influence, distracted or somehow negligent? Whatever the reason for this driver’s action, if found to be responsible for this accident, he or she could be held civilly liable for the injuries caused and criminally charged depending on the outcome of the police investigation.
Auto Product Defect Issues
It would also, be important to look into whether auto product defects (roof crush, seat back failure) in the Ford Excursion caused Buindo’s fatal injuries and the other serious injuries. I’d want to know if Biundo was ejected because of seatbelt defects in the Ford SUV. A reputed Riverside car accident lawyer, who has successfully handled seat belt defect and other auto product liability cases will be able to help the family better understand their legal rights and options.
