Fatal San Bernardino Car Accident Also Causes Major Injuries

By

So Yon Bothe, 60, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after the car she was a passenger in was involved in a collision on Highway 58 the night of January 17, 2010. According to a news report in the Desert Dispatch, a 2002 Lexus was traveling west on Highway 58 near Lenwood Road, when its 47-year-old driver turned the car to the left for unknown reasons.

The car crossed over into the opposing traffic lanes and was struck on its right side by a 2002 Honda Civic. Bothe, who was the right front passenger in the Lexus, was transported to a local hospital where she died. The drivers of both cars as well as a passenger from the Civic were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of So Yon Bothe for their sudden and devastating loss. I also hope and pray that the victims who sustained major injuries make a quick and complete recovery. Please keep these victims and their families in your prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 126 fatalities and 2,255 injuries involving car accidents in unincorporated San Bernardino County. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 208 deaths and 9,920 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Causes and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear why the driver of the Lexus suddenly turned the car to the left causing the fatal side-impact collision. Was there an auto product defect or a mechanical malfunction in the Lexus, which caused it to go out of control? Was there debris on the roadway that the driver was trying to avoid? Was the Lexus cut off by another vehicle? I trust investigators are looking into all those aspects and more in order to determine what exactly caused this collision.

The victims of this crash and their families would be well-advised to consult an experienced San Bernardino car accident lawyer who will analyze all aspects of the accident and make sure their legal rights and best interests are protected. If there was any negligence or wrongdoing here, the negligent parties need to be held accountable.
