Fatal Los Angeles Car Accident

By

Julius Glover, 22, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after his Honda Civic collided with a Mercedes-Benz in Santa Clarita the night of February 5, 2010. According to a news report in The Signal, Glover was driving at the legal speed limit on the 5 Freeway near Calgrove Boulevard, and was behind and to the right of the Mercedes, when its driver lost control and entered Glover’s lane. The front of the Mercedes struck the Civic’s front side, pushing it into the center divider.

The Civic then slid along the wall, went over and landed on the right shoulder of The Old Road. Glover sustained fatal injuries and his passenger, 24-year-old Louisa Hezseltine, suffered major injuries. The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured. California Highway Patrol officials do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to this accident, but they suspect rain and the wet roadway may have played a part.

Tragic Car Accident

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Julius Glover for their tragic and sudden loss. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this man. I also hope the seriously injured passenger, Louisa Hezseltine, makes a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep these victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

According to CHP’s 2007 traffic accident statistics, there were five fatalities and 630 injuries involving car accidents in Santa Clarita. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of traffic accidents during the same year.

Car Accident Causes and Liability Issues

This news report leaves several questions unanswered. Why did the driver of the Mercedes cut into the lane Glover was traveling in? CHP officials say drugs or alcohol were not involved. But was the driver distracted, driving too fast given the wet conditions or was he driving recklessly or inattentively? I trust CHP investigators are looking into these and other issues in order to determine who was at fault here.

The families of Julius Glover and Louisa Hezseltine would be well-advised to retain the services of an experienced Los Angeles car accident lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that they receive fair compensation for their injuries, damages and losses. In such cases, families of deceased victims could file a wrongful death claim while an injured victim can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost earnings, cost of hospitalization, surgeries, rehabilitation and other related damages.
