A woman who was fatally injured in a Torrance car accident on March 20, 2010, has been identified by authorities as 51-year-old Carrie Narr. The Daily Breeze reports that the fatal car crash occurred in the 400 block of Camina del Campo. Narr apparently lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway and crashed into a tree. She was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. An investigation is ongoing. My heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved Carrie Narr for their tragic loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to her families and friends. They will be in my prayers.
There were nine fatalities and 480 injuries involving car accidents in Torrance, California, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Los Angeles County as a whole, car accidents claimed 667 lives and injured 52,229 people in 2008.
Causes and Liability Issues
Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused this fatal car crash. It is not clear what type of vehicle Narr was driving. This accident may have been caused by a vehicle defect or a mechanical problem in Narr’s vehicle. There is also a possibility that Narr lost control of her vehicle because of a dangerous or defective roadway or in an attempt to avoid debris on the roadway. In such cases, investigators should look into whether there were other vehicles involved. I trust officials will soon be able to determine what precisely occurred here.
It would be advisable in such incidents to preserve the vehicle, in tact, so it can be examined thoroughly by an expert for auto product defects, malfunctions or other evidence. If this accident was caused by a dangerous or defective roadway, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could be held liable. Please remember, according to California Government Code 911.2, any such claim against a governmental entity must be filed within six months of the accident or injury. An experienced Torrance car accident lawyer will be able to stay on top of the official investigation and advise victims and their families in such cases about their legal rights and options.
