Woman Critically Injured in Orange County Car Accident

By

Three people sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident after two cars were struck by another vehicle whose driver was operating recklessly moments before the crash, according to a news report in The Orange County Register. California Highway Patrol officials said witnesses reported seeing a Mercedes on the 5 Freeway hit the center divider and also two other cars, the afternoon of March 26, 2010. The driver of the Mercedes was apparently driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed near El Camino Real, in San Clemente. A BMW and another car were involved in this crash. The female driver of the BMW, her passenger and the driver of the other car were transported to an area hospital, following the accident. The driver of the BMW is said to be in critical condition. It is not clear whether the driver of the Mercedes was under the influence at the time and if he or she was injured in the collision.

My heart goes out to the injured victims of this accident. I hope their injuries were not major and wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. They will be in my prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

There were 11 fatalities and 166 injuries involving car accidents in San Clemente, according to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Orange County as a whole, 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Fault and Liability

Based on this news report, it is not really clear what the sequence of events were in this injury collision and exactly how it had occurred. It appears that the crash involving the Mercedes triggered the second one. If that was the case and the driver of the Mercedes is determined to have been driving recklessly, then he or she could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries. I trust officials are also looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a part in this injury accident.

In such cases, where negligence or wrongdoing may have been involved, it is important that injured victims contact an experienced Orange County car accident lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the crash and make sure that the negligent parties are held accountable.
