One Injured in Santa Ana Car Accident

By

One person sustained injuries in a Santa Ana car accident after a driver stepped on the gas instead of the brakes and drove into a nail salon in a local strip mall. The Orange County Register reports that the accident occurred in the 1200 block of Bristol Street the morning of April 7, 2010. The 35-year-old woman apparently rammed her Ford Crown Victoria into the store as she was attempting to park her vehicle. Officials said the woman told them that she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. One nail salon employee sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver was not injured in this collision.

It is indeed fortunate that no one was seriously injured in this car crash. I wish the injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accidents

There were 15 fatalities and 1,365 injuries involving car accidents in Santa Ana, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Orange County as a whole, 152 deaths and 13,414 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Fault and Liability Issues

If the details in this news report are accurate, it seems to me that the driver of the Crown Victoria was inattentive at the time. It is not clear yet what caused her to mistake the gas pedal for the brake. There are still some questions that arise here. Was she distracted or impaired? Was she negligent in any other way?

In such cases, victim would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Santa Ana car accident lawyer who will be able to analyze all facets of the incident and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, cost of hospitalization, physical therapy, loss of earnings and other related damages. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer can also advise victims about how their own car insurance policy will apply in cases where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.

If you were a store owner or building owner, what types of safety measures would you put outside your business to prevent these types of accidents, which have become common, of late?
