Two Injured in Orange County Car Accident

By

Two people sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident triggered by a suspected drunk driver on April 23, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred on the northbound 5 Freeway near Culver Drive and involved several vehicles including a Toyota Tundra, a Volvo and a big rig. Two occupants of the Toyota pickup were taken to a nearby hospital. It is not clear if they were seriously injured. The driver of a black Dodge Dakota was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

I hope that both these victims did not sustain major or catastrophic injuries. I wish them the best for a quick and full recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

There were five fatalities and 840 injuries involving car accidents in Irvine in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Countywide, there were 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries involving car crashes during the same year.

DUI laws and Liability Issues

Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is a serious crime under California law. It is illegal for any person with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more to drive a vehicle. It is also against the law for anyone who is under the influence of drugs –recreational or prescription — to operate a motor vehicle.

Injured victims in such cases would be well-advised to contact a reputed Orange County personal injury lawyer who has experience and a successful track record of holding drunk drivers financially responsible for the injuries and damages they have caused. Injured victims in such cases could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and other damages. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer should also determine how the victim’s car insurance policy applies to a case where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
