Ventura Car Accident Injures Six

By

Six people sustained injuries in a Ventura car accident after a big rig driver rear-ended an SUV triggering a chain-reaction crash that eventually involved three other vehicles. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, 36-year-old Mark Powell was stopped in heavy traffic on Highway 101 near the State Beaches exit, the morning of May 10, 2010. It was then that a large truck driven by 53-year-old Lonnie Pendleton hit Powell’s SUV. The SUV then slammed into a car driven by 44-year-old Carlos Figueroa and a flatbed tow truck operated by 48-year-old Dean Gordon.

Powell sustained facial injuries and a broken tooth, California Highway Patrol officials said. His wife, 33-year-old Stacie Powell, complained of neck and back pain as did Figueroa and his passenger, 29-year-old Sandra Petatan. The Powell’s two children also suffered minor injuries. Gordon and Pendleton were uninjured. The injured victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

I sympathize with all the injured victims in this truck accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and complete recovery and sincerely hope that no one was seriously injured. They will be in my prayers.

Traffic Accident Statistics in Ventura

Accident Causes and Liability Issues

If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears that the driver of the big rig, Lonnie Pendleton, may have been at fault for the accident. It is not clear however as to why Pendleton failed to stop for the heavy traffic ahead. Was the truck driver impaired, asleep at the wheel, distracted, inattentive or otherwise negligent at the time? If that was the case, the truck driver as well as the trucking firm could be held liable for the injuries caused to victims.

Injured victims in such cases would be well-advised to consult with an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who has successfully handled truck accident cases on behalf of injured victims. In truck accident cases, an important piece of evidence is the driver’s logs. It takes a skilled attorney to obtain such information before it is lost, misplaced or destroyed.
