Driver Injured in Los Angeles Car Accident

By

A man was seriously injured in a Los Angeles car accident after his Audi A4 was struck by a box truck on the shoulder of the 60 Freeway. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the collision occurred on July 22, 2010 near Nogales Street, in Rowland Heights. California Highway Patrol officials say the Audi was stopped on the right shoulder of the eastbound side of the freeway when a box truck veered into it. During the injury crash, the box truck ran over the rear of the car.

Serious Injuries

The box truck then continued on for about 300 feet before it stopped. The driver of the Audi, believed to be in his 30s, suffered major injuries to his head, pelvis and chest. The driver of the box truck stopped at the scene. Officials are still investigating why the Audi was stopped on the shoulder and what caused the box truck driver to rear-end the car.

I hope the driver of the Audi did not suffer catastrophic injuries in this accident. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep this injured victim and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 121 fatalities and 4,683 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Also, countywide, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Fault and Liability

There are very few details and several unanswered questions in this particular case. The driver of the Audi was stopped on the shoulder. However, what is not known is why the box truck driver lost control and veered into the Audi. Was the driver of the truck under the influence? Was he or she distracted, speeding or driving recklessly? Was he or she on-the-job or running an errand at the time? These are all important questions that must be answered in order to determine fault and liability in this particular case.

If authorities determine that the driver of the box truck was at fault for this accident, then, he or she as well as his or her employer (if there is one) could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, physical therapy and other related damages. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to advise injured victims and their families about their legal rights and options.
