Two people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident on July 27, 2010, the Pasadena Star-News reports. California Highway Patrol officials say the chain reaction collision involving at least six vehicles was triggered by a semi-truck that rear-ended one of the vehicles on the 210 Freeway at Lake Avenue in Pasadena. An off-duty CHP officer and a 49-year-old woman were injured. An investigation is ongoing.
My heart goes out to the injured victims of this crash. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were eight fatalities and 978 injuries involving car accidents in Pasadena. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people died and 52,229 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.
Who Caused the Crash?
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the big rig may have started the chain-reaction crash, which resulted in the injuries. There are still several questions here. What caused the initial rear-end collision, which triggered the chain reaction? Was the driver of the big rig under the influence? Was the truck driver distracted? Was the big rig’s driver traveling too fast given the traffic conditions? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine exactly what occurred here.
If it is determined that this accident was the truck driver’s fault, then, the driver as well as his or her employer, could be held liable for the crash and the injuries. Injured victims in such cases could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, physical therapy, pain and suffering, and other related damages.
Injured victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who has successfully represented victims of truck accidents. Trucking companies are usually very quick to get their own investigators, insurance companies and attorneys to the accident scene in order to protect their best interests. Truck accident victims need an experienced injury lawyer on their side too, who will fight for their legal rights and look out for their best interests.
