A motorcycle accident in Orange County involving a big-rig caused serious injuries to one person the afternoon of July 20, 2010. The Orange County Register reports that the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Raymond and Chapman Avenues. The truck was making a right turn on to Chapman and the motorcycle was headed east on Chapman. The injured motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital. Police are looking into what caused this collision.
I sympathize with this injured rider for what he is going through at this time. I hope he has not suffered major injuries and pray that he has a quick and full recovery.

It is unclear from this article who had right-of-way at the intersection. California Vehicle Code section 21800 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.” If the truck driver had right-of-way, the motorcyclist could be held at fault. However, if the truck driver failed to yield right-of-way to the motorcyclist then that driver and his or her employer — the trucking firm — could be held liable for the motorcyclist’s injuries, damages and losses.
