Riverside Car Accident Proves Fatal for Driver

By

The driver of a Nissan sedan was killed and two others were injured in a Riverside car accident the morning of August 22, 2010. The Press Enterprise reports that the Nissan drifted into opposing lanes of traffic on Bundy Canyon Road in Wildomar. The driver then over-corrected, causing the car to skid and go into the path of an oncoming Toyota Yaris. The force of the collision apparently split the Nissan at its driver side door post, killing the female driver and injuring two people in the Yaris. One of the injured passengers of the Yaris sustained multiple broken bones. The accident is currently under investigation.

My heart goes to the friends and family of the woman killed in this crash. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), no one was killed but 29 people were injured in Wildomar car accidents. That same year, there were 220 deaths and 8,561 injuries as a result of car accidents in all of Riverside County.

Laws and Liability Issues

According to California Vehicle Code section 21651 (a), “whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”

In this particular case, it is not clear why the driver of the Nissan lost control of the vehicle. Was she impaired, distracted, fatigued or otherwise negligent? If that driver is determined to have been at fault, then, the injured victims could file a claim against the deceased victim’s insurance or estate. In such cases, injured victims could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and other related damages. Car accident victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside car accident lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable.

What are some of the most serious challenges facing injured victims and their families in the aftermath of a crash?
