Five people were injured, two critically, in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver, early morning on September 25, 2010. According to a news report in The Long Beach Press-Telegram, the injury collision occurred, when a wrong-way driver traveled northbound in the southbound lanes of the 710 Freeway near Anaheim Street. The 23-year-old man driving a van struck an SUV that spun out and hit two other vehicles. The 39-year-old driver of the SUV and the 23-year-old van driver were transported to a hospital with critical injuries. Three others also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
My heart goes out to all who were injured in this crash, especially the driver of the SUV who was critically injured. I hope he makes it through his injuries and has a complete recovery. I also wish the three other victims the very best for a swift and full recovery. Please keep these injured victims in your prayers.
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were nine fatalities and 186 injuries involving DUI collisions in Long Beach. Drunk Driving Laws
Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is a serious crime under California law. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a): “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.”
Drivers who operate under the influence and cause serious injury accidents can not only face felony criminal charges, but also be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses they cause to the other victims. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages.
It would be in the best interests of injured victims to seek the counsel of a reputed Long Beach car accident lawyer, who has the experience and a successful track record of holding drunk drivers financially responsible.
