An elderly woman and her son were injured in a San Bernardino car accident after a pickup truck crashed into their home the morning of September 14, 2010. The Victorville Daily Press reports that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling north on the Interstate 15 and crashed through a fence and into the living room and bedroom of the two-story home located near Mariposa Road and Tamarack Drive. The two seriously injured victims were airlifted to area trauma centers with serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
I am relieved to hear that no one was killed in this sudden and terrible car accident. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone injured in this Victorville car accident.
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 16 people were killed and 266 people were injured in Victorville car accidents. During the same year, there were 263 fatalities and 8,504 injuries in San Bernardino County car crashes.
It is unclear at this time what caused the truck to veer off the freeway. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21651 (a) “whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”
There are several questions here. Was the driver of the pickup under the influence? Did he or she fall asleep at the wheel or suffer a medical condition? Was the driver distracted, speeding or driving recklessly? Was another vehicle involved? Did another driver force this pickup truck off the roadway? I trust officials are looking at these and other issues in order to determine precisely how or why this crash occurred.
Personal Injury Claim
If the driver of the pickup is determined to have been at fault, he or she could be held liable for the accident and injuries caused. Injured victims in such cases could seek compensation to recover medical expenses, loss of earnings, hospitalization, surgery, and other related damages. An experienced San Bernardino car accident lawyer will be able to better advise injured victims about their legal rights and options.
