Two women sustained major injuries in a San Diego car accident the morning of September 7, 2010 after their vehicles collided head-on. According to a North County Times report, the car crash occurred on Via Del La Valle near Calzada del Bosque in Rancho Santa Fe. At this time it is not known what caused this two-car, head-on collision. Both women injured in this car crash were flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.
My thoughts and prayers are with the two women injured in this car accident. I wish them both a complete and speedy recovery.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 90 deaths and 2,252 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Also, countywide, 246 people died and 13,527 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.
What Caused This Collision?
The news account does not specify how this San Diego County car accident took place. Head-on collisions often occur as the result of a vehicle drifting into oncoming traffic. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21651 (a) “whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.” I trust officials are looking into whether one of the drivers here was under the influence, distracted, speeding or driving recklessly at the time.
The driver who is determined to have caused this accident could be held liable for the other person’s injuries. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Victims and their families would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Diego car accident lawyer, who will thoroughly analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
