Car Accident Statistics

There were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries involving car accidents in Anaheim in 2008, according to CHP’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Also, 152 people died and 13,414 were injured as a result of Orange County car accidents during the same year.

Laws and Liability Issues

It is against California law to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs under California Vehicle Code Section 23152. If the driver is found guilty of drunk driving, not only can he face the criminal consequences, but also be held civilly liable for the injuries and damages caused.

This photo accompanying the news report indicates that the 1993 Ford Explorer overturned on impact. It would also be a good idea in such cases to look into whether a design flaw or auto product defect in the Ford SUV may have contributed to the rollover and serious injuries. If that was the case, the auto maker could also be held liable for the victims’ injuries.

In this case, all the injured victims were occupants of the Ford Explorer, which is notorious for its instability and weak roof. The photo shows the SUV’s roof was crushed by this accident. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who has successfully handled Ford SUV auto product liability cases will be able to advise the victims about their legal rights and options.
