Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Car Accident Proves Fatal

By

Roger Rochart, 47, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident, which police say, was caused by a hit-and-run driver on the afternoon of November 13, 2010. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the 605 Freeway near Peck Road in the City of Industry. Police state an unknown vehicle cut off a Lexus SUV driving in the carpool lane of the freeway and forcing the driver to brake suddenly.

The resulting chain-reaction car accident involved at least three vehicles that ultimately resulted in the death of Rochart. Rochart and a female passenger were ejected from their 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Rochart sustained fatal injuries when he collided with a Chevy Suburban. Rochart’s passenger, a 50-year-old woman, sustained major injuries. The driver who caused the car accident left the scene.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Roger Rochart. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) one person was killed and 17 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents in the City of Industry. During that same year, there were 114 fatalities and 2,934 injuries reported involving Los Angeles County motorcycle accidents.

Non-Contact Hit-And-Run Accidents

Police are searching for the driver that caused this fatal chain-reaction car accident. This incident is a classic example of a “non-contact hit-and-run,” which means that the suspect vehicle did cause the accident, but there was no collision. Still, the driver should have stopped, exchanged information with the other party and rendered aid to the injured victims. However, he or she chose to drive away from the scene of the car accident, leaving victims injured and lying on the roadway. I certainly hope that this driver is soon apprehended and brought to justice. Leaving the scene of an injury car accident is not only inhumane and heartless, but it is also illegal. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Victims’ Claim for Compensation

In such cases, an injured car accident victim, or the family of a deceased victim, would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident attorney will also be able to advise victims about how their car insurance policy might apply to a hit-and-run car accident where the at-fault driver is never identified, or an incident where the at-fault driver is uninsured or under-insured.
