Fatal Orange County Car Accident

By

Jay Winters, 28, was killed in an Orange County car accident after he lost control of his car and crashed into a bridge pillar. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred on southbound 241 near Bee Canyon the morning of December 6, 2010. Winters crashed his 2010 Chevrolet truck into a concrete pillar. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the cause of the fatal accident.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Jay Winters. My thoughts and prayers are with them following this tragic car accident.

Orange County Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 12 people were killed and 321 were injured in unincorporated Orange County car accidents. During that same year, there were 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries sustained in Orange County car crashes.

What Caused This Fatal Car Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why this fatal car accident occurred. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction, which may have caused or contributed to this car accident? Was a dangerous roadway condition a factor? Were any other vehicles involved? For example, did Winters get run off the roadway by another vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, the family of a deceased car accident victim can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages. The family in such cases would be well-advised to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined for design flaws, product defects, malfunctions and other evidence. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise victims’ families about their legal rights and options.
