Two Injured in Sacramento Car Accident

By

Two women were critically injured in a Sacramento car accident after their vehicle was struck by an SUV that ran a red light. According to a News10 report, the major injury car accident occurred at the intersection of Manzanita and Coyle avenues in Carmichael the night of November 23, 2010. California Highway Patrol officials say, an SUV carrying teenagers ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into a Saturn sedan and a Honda CRV.

Police had earlier tried to pull over the SUV for speeding, but the teen driver failed to stop and sped away. The two critically injured women were traveling in the Saturn. The driver of the Honda was also injured. The three juveniles in the SUV sustained minor injuries. All six victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment. No arrests have been made pending an official investigation.

My heart goes out to the seriously injured victims of this car accident. I wish all the injured victims the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Sacramento Car Accidents

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 47 fatalities and 3,022 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. Also, countywide, 84 people died and 7,874 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Several Violations of the Law Reported

Based on this news report, the teen driver possibly did not have a valid license, was speeding, evading police and eventually crashed into the other vehicles after running a red light at the intersection. This driver apparently had a blatant disregard for the law and the rules of the road.

It is against the law to drive at an unsafe speed. California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

It is also a serious traffic violation to run a red light. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Protecting Victims’ Rights

In such cases, it would be in the best interests of injured victims to seek the counsel of an experienced Sacramento personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure their legal rights are protected. A skilled car accident attorney will also be able to advise injured victims about how their car insurance policy might apply to an incident where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
