One Injured in Orange County Car Accident

By

At least one person was injured in a car accident in Anaheim after four cars collided at a street intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury car accident occurred the morning of January 18, 2011 at the intersection of State College Boulevard and Orangewood Avenue. The four vehicles that were involved in the accident were a Ford E250 van, a Jeep Cherokee, a Dodge Dakota and a Dodge Caravan. One driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

I sincerely hope the victim did not suffer any catastrophic injuries in this four-car accident. I wish this victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries involving Anaheim car accidents. During the same year, 152 people were killed and 13,414 were injured as a result of Orange County car accidents.

Right-of-Way Issues

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how or why this injury car accident occurred. But officials say it happened at a major intersection. It is not clear if there were right-of-way issues here. Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way at the intersection? Did one of the motorists run a red light?

According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.”

Also, California Vehicle Code section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Victims’ Claim for Compensation

In such cases, the at-fault motorist can be held liable for injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured car accident victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Victims would also be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will better explain their legal rights and options to them.

In a multi-vehicle car accident such as this one, it would also be in the victims’ best interest not to talk to any insurance adjusters or attorneys for the other parties until they have talked to their own injury lawyers. Also, do not rush into settlements or sign agreements without first consulting a knowledgeable injury lawyer.
