Frank Yarborough, 41, was killed in a hit-and-run accident after his motorcycle was struck by a big rig the night of January 7, 2011. According to a news report in The Desert Sun, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of Varner and Ramon roads in Thousand Palms when the tractor-trailer, which was traveling south on Varner, made a U-turn. Yarborough, who was riding near the large truck, attempted to take evasive action, but was run over by the big rig.
The white colored truck and trailer did not stop at the scene and was last seen heading northbound toward the 10 Freeway on Varner. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver or the truck is asked to contact California Highway Patrol officials at 760-772-8900.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Frank Yarborough for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.
According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 13 fatalities and 132 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in the unincorporated areas of Riverside County. Also, countywide, 32 people died and 581 were injured in motorcycle accidents in 2008.
Leaving the Scene of an Accident
Based on this news report, the driver of the big rig may have not only made an illegal U-turn, but also left the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident, which was apparently caused by his or her truck making that turn. The driver left a critically injured victim lying on the roadway without care or medical attention. This individual lacked the basic human decency to stop and call 911 to help the severely injured victim. Appalling!
Holding Wrongdoers Accountable
I hope this driver is promptly apprehended and brought to justice. If you have any information about this hit-and-run motorist or the truck, please contact CHP or visit our web site, www.hitandrunreward.com to find out how you can offer an anonymous tip and become eligible for a $1,000 reward. The family of a hit-and-run accident victim would be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are preserved. In this case, if the driver is apprehended, both the driver and his or her employer can be held accountable for the victim’s wrongful death. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer should also inform families about how their own car insurance policy applies to a hit-and-run incident where the driver is never identified, or in a case where the at-fault party may be uninsured or underinsured.
